    The screens look quite good.

But i really doubt it will amount to very much, given it has Sid's name on it, and he seems to not be creating anything in the last 10 games with his name in front.

Also note it has the Civilization brand name as well, so it likely will be using the exact same engine.

So i am just cautiously optimistic :)

If it's the same garbage pseudo-wargame uneasily mishmashed with strategic-scaled game than Civ5, no thanks.

^By now most 3d strategy games look like mods of most other 3d strategy games :\

I'm optimistic here. They caught a lot of flak from their fanbase for Civ 5 and most problems have been fixed by now. I just hope it will be decently polished upon release.

I'm currently waiting for the political outrage because the game assumes climate change is real and the astronaut guy looks like Barack Hussein Obama from behind.:D

Interesting. Not sure if I'd like it though, because I don't know yet if I like Civ5, but am afraid that I don't. A lot of the changes sound bad to me. But to be sure I would- well have to play it. But so far it just never was a priority to me. Even though I own the game for a over a year by now...

it seem also employ the 1upt as in civ 5. I had really a boring experience with 1 upt especially in the narrow and mountainous map, for the first time in my gaming experience I witness "unit traffic jam".

Very true. Not much true novelty out there in the gaming world anymore it seems.

Interesting, I tend to like to spend time & money on real space development (learning, mostly), but it would be fun to get a good game on this topic for inspiration!

Shame it is based on the Civ5 engine.

I doubt they'll manage or even try to develop such great setting and atmosphere the original game has. Modders do all the work for them these days. Plus, Brian Reynolds and other authors are not there, right?

I assume they're not using the Alpha Centauri name because it's copyrighted to someone other than Firaxis' people?

Even if it wasn't, I would assume that the power of the Civilization brand probably outweighs that of Alpha Centauri, which is after all a fairly obscure game by comparison. The Colonization remake was similarly given the title "Civilization", which it didn't strictly need to have, so it makes sense they'd do something similar here.

I doubt they used the Civ brand for the remake of Colonization for the reason you mentioned. They just knew that the new Colonization was by and large a mod of CivIV, so they might as well mention that in its very title.

I fear that this new game is a very similar situation, and a mod of CivV (and civV seems to not be a great success anyway, at least if one goes by the forum here). Moreover afaik CivV has its source code released, so probably any added code in this space game could have been modded in by the community, at least in theory.
