Not very original, but the wonders topic is almost done and I'm curious which civs will turn out to be the most favored (for example, I never expected that the Oracle would last so long in the wonders thread).

I liked the structure of the wonders topic so I don't see much reason to make major adjustments - so all credit goes to Zyx.

All civs are included, so G&K and DLC ones are in it.

How to vote
Take over the list from the previous post and give the civ you like one point (+1) and take two points (-2) of the civ you dislike the most. Mark the civ that you give an extra point in [.COLOR="Green"]enterCivhere +1 and the civ from which you take two points in red [.COLOR="Red"]entercivhere -2 - minus the dots. Sometimes the voting get a bit exiting and people might miss an earlier post: the voting Civs colored in blue means that the poster has adjusted the scores to the correct amount.

The idea is that you do give a proper reason based on the game. So please don't come with comments like "My grandfather died in the war, so..", "USA! USA!", "Polynesian cannibals ate my family" or ridicule reasons such as "I wanted Zulu so I punish Sweden for that".

Please vote only once within 24 hours period.

Civs that hit zero points or below is eliminated and can be deleted from the list that you copy.

Never really been a fan of Austria’s ability, it can be quite powerful but it is not an ability that is really exiting. Also one of the more annoying AI’s.
Byzantium has a really cool ability that can make its religion very powerful. Dromons are the best early available ships because its range can give excellent support to your terrestrial units. The AI is also most of the time very friendly and cooperating.

Maya 21 (+1) I love building various Maya cities [also I admit to renaming a couple of them to cities that were in Kaqchikel control :p] and while I normally don't go crazy ICS wide - I sometimes do with my Maya [Also learned you can't build settlers if you are above -10 unhappy or was it -20].

You forgot to put Polynesia in here. Polynesia 18 (-2) They just don't get enough reward for exploring. Their UU's ability isn't much and does little to help itself survive in multi games to make use of it in later eras. Moai are not as good for multi as well - and well frankly they are only so so.

I like Siam's ability, but since it has no UU or UB that helps it actually get those bonuses, it's kind of on the same playing field as everybody else when it comes to gaining favor of city-states.

The Maya are just too diverse. Early faith and science building, free Great People, and early defending units that don't require a technology. Nobody else gives you that much choice that early.

It is really situational... There are civs any kind of victory, one-city challenges; it depends on the starting era... I will vote according to my taste, not objectivelly...

Carthage gets my vote due to my love of the civ from before and their UA being really nice. More than once a city has fallen from a unit going over a mountain, and...free harbors, free hammers, free trade routes!

I'll go ahead and hammer Polynesia, too, because they aren't even in my game. I have a hate deep in my soul for DLC civs.

Austria is the only civ that I always want to completely wipe out no matter what VC I'm going for. All other civs I'd leave with at least 1 piddly city.

America's UA and UUs are good and often have their value underrated.
 • Extra sight for all land military units not only helps with the early game scouting, it also effectively removes the sight penalty for ranged units.
 • Cheaper tile purchases are great for getting to that tile you want to connect quickly without having to settle on top of or next to it, especially when you can't, such as when "stealing" a CS's lux, natural wonder, etc. It can also be used to trap a rival scout.
 • Since we can now upgrade into muskets with G&K, all musket UU's just became a lot better. The Minuteman was already a great UU because it can move like a scout and starts with rough terrain promotion, so with the 3 +xp buildings and Brandenburg, you get a very good melee unit with march right out of the gate.
 • With Stealth bombers getting pushed back in the tree, the B-17 became even better thanks to it's mini-stealth ability on top of the free siege promotion. So with the same set-p I mentioned for the Minuteman, you can crank these out with air repair and logistics out the gate.

Sure there are some civs that are better than America, but folks will likely vote them up anyway, while ignoring or even down voting American simplely because most folks seem to completely underestimate just how good America really is.

China: Spamming early archers and upgrading Exp units into CKN is a fun way to dominate early. Bonuses from UB also come at a time when extra gold is useful for aforementioned unit upgrading.

Austria: I'd rather spend 500g on a settler and put my city on the exact hex I want.

Nothing like a warmonger culture victory to spice up CiV with the Aztecs.
India, PLEASE get a buff soon. You stink and I'd never want to play as you, and will restart if I get it by random. My god the UA cripples early game so much. And I never go for OCC.

+ Austria: I was actually going to upvote someone esle, but wow at the hate on Austria. That ability is amazing! I don't think its really fair to dovote them because you hate seeing them as AI. Isn't the idea of this thread to find the top civs to play as? Sure you don't get to settle the city exactly where you want, but when you settle a city does it come with buildings, mid to high population, and a sizable army?! No it doesn't and thats why I find this UA insanely powerful.

- Egypt: I never found the wonder building bonus that great. Its not that it is bad, but just that I'd rather have nearly any other UA in the game. Combined with the fact that I would consider the war chariot to be the absolute worst UU by a wide margin, I just have no love in my heart for Egypt.

The Inca are my all time favorite to play as. Sure their UU is kind of on the weak side, but that ability on upgraded units is fantastic. Their UA is by far the best in the game, allowing them to build almost anywhere and have a powerhouse city.

Spain's UU's are great, but I can't get over just how extremely situational their UA is. It does absolutely nothing mid-to-late game after all the Wonders have been found. Also I don't think I would ever actually settle a Conquistador.

Byzantium: Dromons are incredibly dominant for a water map start, cataphracts are pretty decent for a land-based map, extra religion bonus gives ultimate flexibility for any type of map.

India: The UA isn't very useful any longer, the mughal fort is lame and the unique unit isn't particularly good either on the offence or defense.

Ethiopia : Nice rounded civ. Stele is probably the best early UB around with pyramid(Maya) close 2nd. Suited for both Tradition or Liberty starter(ICS), though with Liberty you probably lose your UA capacity. But still very nice civ for an early religion, one of the most important aspect of the game.

India : Well no more courthouse bug :p...with more happiness available, his UA shines a lot less than before. Weakest civ.

So would you say that we should vote for civs we like the most, or ones we think are the best? Those can be two different things . . .

Speaking from a vanilla standpoint, of course. :p

I typically play on Pangaea, which really cripples the Ottoman UA. However, I've found that the UA is still crippled on anything less than Archipelago or Islands, so take that for what you will.

And I wuv Sacrificial Captives. :D

Query: What do the choices in Blue mean?

EDIT: Blue are "corrections," like I'm trying to make here because you posted just before me. ;)

Spain- Either you don't get any natural wonders and it feels like you're getting ripped off, or you find/settle a few early and it feels like cheating. Either way it's no fun.

Egypt- What can I say? I'm building a civilization and I want to make stuff. Yes I understand there are better civs out there playwise.
