Had something strange happen to me yesterday. I am playing a game on a huge map and after a brief war I managed to take/destroy all Russian cities on my continent. :goodjob:

I started to look at the world map to see where the last Russian city maybe hidding but did not see it. After about 10 turns I finally managed to a peace treaty with them and traded World maps, still can not see any Russian cities

Since I am still learning the game :goodjob: I saved and Retired in order to look at the map and Russian development. From this I saw that the last Russian city disappears from the game (probably due to cultural assimilation) to the Americans the same turn as I take the last city on my continent and their graph line fades away.

But here is the rub, They are still in the game !!! and in fact I was at war with them and thus unable to switch to Republic for 10 turns after they no longer existed!!

Has anyone else seen this happen ???

I think you need to kill them to the last unit. That is, if they have a settler on a boat somewhere, they are still in the game. It is your mission to hunt them down! Or have every other civ declare war on them - as soon as they land, they will get wiped out.

After the patch and I think before if you kill a settler when there are no cities of that civ the game crashes. Either restore an old game and kill the settler before you take the city of wait for the settler to form a city and take that.

In the game I just finished, after I took all German cities, the Germans were floating around somewhere with a settler on a boat. Everytime I found and attempted to sink the boat, the game crashed.

I had to wait for them to land the settler, then kill them off. It only took about 900 years...

I've finished a civ before by killing a settler without crashing.

But most times, if there's room on a continent, that remaining settler will suddenly turn into a city far away from where his others were.

Well, I have not seem a Russian boat or a settler, but I guess I must assume it/they are outhere somewhere (I am playing on a huge map). Will have to just keep looking I guess.

I certainly do not want any of my Russian cities fliping at this point, I go the French to worry about now and I would like to forget about the Russians.

Yeah, civs survive if they have settlers remaining. Never had it crash when killing this unit though but I can believe it. :)

oh that happened to me some games ago. i killed all the japaneese cities and they stayed in the game for 2500 years without any city on the map. i checked like.. 6 times in the " find city " option lol
it was on a huge map and i was the chineese with a mutual protection pact with the americans. i declared war against japan and so the american declared it too and some turns later: "evil japan has suffered a hummiliated loss" <- something like that ( i dont remember the specific sentence)
my game did not crash.

Nice idea Magnus - just one problem. It doesn´t work, they still have that settler.

Happened to me. I erradicated the Egyptians but then found that they hadn´t disappeared! Bit irritating because they could always take a city back by culture.

Exactly that happened. About one millenium after their disappearance from the power graph - POW!- they got a city back. They kept it for 30 seconds as I killed them off again but they still weren´t dead.

A few centuries later the Romans did it for me - bless them.

My power graph looks really weird - No yellow for centuries and then one yellow dot! Weird.

More often than not, well, all the times I've tried, they refuse to take a city as a gift from me.
