Welcome everyone to the 1st official ALC for Civilization V. I will be youre host player Caeserportugal and hope you can follow me as I try to show up the best strategys for every civ in the game

List of civs to play

Alexander - Greece
Askia - Songhai
Augustus - Rome
Bismark - Germany
Catherine - Russia
Darius - Persia
Elizabeth - England
Gandhi - India
Harun Al Rashid - Arabia
Hiawtha - Iroquois
Montezuma - Aztecs
Napoleon - France
Nobunaga - Japan
Ramkhamaeng - Siam
Ramsess II - Egypt
Suleiman - Ottomans
Washington - America

So we will start with Alexander the Great of Greece. Nice game to try the new city-states mechanic.

If you're doing this under the name of ALC, you should pay tribute to the original series by atleast attempting to have the same top quality writing and insight Sisiutil put into his back in the day. Those games ascended your traditional average forum games and branded the title ALC.

Read more on the title here if you haven't already and since you're doing this under the fabled title, I expect no less from you; High quality games and insightful descriptions of every meaningful decision.

I personally am not getting my hands on CiV any time this year so I'll live through these forums for the time being.

Didn't Sisiutil said he wanted to do another ALC when Civ V rolled out? You should talk to him before doing this under this name.

I'll be keeping my eye out for the real ALC ;)

However, any good replays are welcomed, so carry on!

What the heck is an ALC?

Funny how so many players NOT named sisiutil are already getting all uppity and butthurt by the thread title. Settle down, sparky(s.)

Agreed. Now I just have to check Madscientist's profile to see if the first RPC is already up.

I wouldn't call me, or anyone else here as uppity or butthurt as you so eloquently put it. I was merely pointing out the fact that if you're poaching on an estabilished title, the least you could do is put the same devotion and effort to it rather than do a half-assed attempt to ride on something someone else has estabilished. Neal has his King of the World, Mad has his RPCs and Sisiutil has his ALC - that's how it simply is.

Oh, and at this early stage when public games of V are still virtually non-existent you'll get an audience under any name you put them because you'll be the first one doing it - you don't need someone elses famous title to gain attention.

Sisiutil where are you?! I was hoping the release of Civ5 would draw you back with your excelent writing style.

@ Caeserportugal
As you can see this has already opened a can of worms (I suggest you PM Sisiutil...)! Don't worry though I'm routing for you! Just remember to let the forums take the strain for you. Its usually through many pages of disscusion that Sisiutil came up with his basic plans to work from and modify. Good luck.

p.s. If you want a less contentious series name then maybe try some thing like "Caeser's ciV run down" or alteratively something better ;)

Sisiutil's all leaders challenge was bad ass; I'm not going to lie. But it's not like he holds a patent or invented the all leader's challenge or anything. An all leaders challenge is enough of a challenge without the peanut gallery comparing the challenger to a player who accomplished it very successfully. Lighten up and let the guy try it. I'm looking forward to it.

I'm all for him trying it and looks like we're off to a good start. I mean, if anything is in the ALC spirit of things it's discussing things until everyone forgot what the original topic was about and then on page ten have some actual playing.

I'm looking forward to this - i'm sure it will be good - but I'll have to side with Fleme, DarkMaster and grandad1982, as Sisiutil really branded his excellent series under this name. (In fact, The All Leaders Challenge Game Bullpen drew almost 180,000 viewers!)

Move the scout north. No hold on ... 1 north north east then 1 north north west.... no that's not right either....!

Has anybody come up with a decent convention for naming directions and relative map positions yet? My money says folks'll settle on NE/SE/NW/SW, but it's going to be a constant source of pedantic comments for the next 5 years. (From people like me that is :p)

In the SGs there using keypad 963147 to decribe the directions. The alternative I proposed would be #NE, #E, #SE, #SW, #W, #NW and because the north and south tiles are two tiles away 2N and 2S (these are always a multiple of 2). Or Just N,S and people can work out that 2N means 4 tiles away. or.....

I was just thinking about it and the clock face would be a simple way. So the basic straight line move directions are 3 oclock which is due east, then 5, 7, 9, 11 and 1 going round. And with multiples of 2 moves you can also go in the 12, 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 o clock directions.

So Caeser, move the scout to 12 oclock! :)

For the record, I think if this is a series perhaps a different name than ALC is in order. ALC is used to simply signify what to expect, I understand it, but I think Sis and the community are a bit sensitive to this.

Myself, I generally don't care about RPCs being played by others (well I shouldn't because Slobbering Bear started them). In fact the successful LHC games were not started by rolo but he took them over and kept up on them.

Which brings me to a point, if CaeserPortugal is willing to put all the effort into posting a series while Sis is not around, well more power to him.
