The survey they put out long ago asked if people would prefer a full expansion or more smaller DLCs. I'm guessing enough people answered yes to smaller DLCs they felt confident enough to go forward with this model. I don't think it's related to covid at all.

I suspect they just took a look at Nintendo's strategy for Pokémon Sword and Shield. Gamefreak released two frontier passes for the Switch spread over 6 months (the second has yet to be released), each featuring new areas, storylines and returning pokémon. I bet several of the devs own Sword and Shield (Anton is a Charizard trainer, bank on it) and decided to do the same with Civ as well.

    Did it though?

I really don't recall the survey asking anything about an expansion. My memory was it was heavily biased towards smaller DLC, with the questions being more around paying / not paying, and whether you wanted districts, buildings, improvements or civs.

    But perhaps I'm mis-remembering...

I've browsed through the thread and there have been some real head scratcher comments made. History majors at world famous universities just aren't what they used to be...

Don't put yourself down, man. Most people on the internet generally aren't as clever as they like to think they are. ;)

I think it's more similar to Smash Bros which is on it's second fighter's pass, which you can buy the DLC packs individually, or all at once which will be cheaper, without knowing the contents.
Also Anton as a Charizard trainer explains the massive difference between R&F and GS. :mischief:

Yes, frustrating, a great potential wasted.

I'll surely be around to see if they try to change back the modding framework for civ7 to something more open for gameplay changes, but I'm afraid it will be even worse.

So I've been out of the loop, what do we know for sure about the next DLC and what are our feasible guesses?

Unless I'm out of the loop without knowing it, we know nothing for sure besides there will be two new civs and a new game mode.

We know there are 2 civs, some World Wonders, a new map. And one of the civs contains a former trade city-state that prompts Venice to replace it, likely from a nearby region. We also know from the same video that Babylon remains a city-state for the time being.

The most feasible guesses are that this pack includes Portugal, Byzantines, or less likely, both.

Yeah, for the most part. It was the most logical date based on past releases. I posted a likely timeline here.

Some of us guessed Tuesday. But I expect we're all happier with Monday.

As of now, I'm of the mind that the remaining five are Portugal, Byzantium, Babylon, Vietnam, and a North American indigenous culture. With those guesses, I actually wouldn't be surprised to see Portugal and Byzantium released together this month. Maybe Native Americans in November, Vietnam in January, and Babylon as a capstone.
