Each leader and civilization in Civ VII is designated with two of six attributes. These attributes are: Cultural, Scientific, Diplomatic, Economic, Militaristic, and Expansionistic. Each attribute is associated with a tree of bonuses that are unlocked one at a time with attribute points. You earn these attribute points through narrative events, as well as buying them with legacy points and building some wonders. The attributes associated with your leader and civilization are the ones you will primarily receive from your leader and civ's special narrative event chain. Other narrative events will occur through emergent gameplay.

*Sources conflict about whether Ibn Battuta has the Expansionist Attribute

As you can see, you can mix and match leader and civs to create combinations of the narrative event attributes. Amina leading Greece would give you Economic, Militarisitic, Diplomatic, and Cultural attribute points from the primary narrative events. Amina leading Persia would only give Economic and Militaristic points, but presumably give you double in those two attribute trees.

We have only seen four attribute trees, so far, of the six.

It’s nice to have all this in one place, but personally I've always been a fan of using matrices for this kind of thing. Shame the forum's table function is so limited

Very interesting system. Kind of reminds me of the Civ V social policy trees but with an element of RNG from being tied to narrative events. I don't really have any feel for how frequently we will get these points?

I may add that for now, the only Attribute with options in each age and a leader for other Attributes is the Economic one (with either Expansionist or Militaristic).

[Edit 2024-11-21] There is a new full Attribute pair (Leader + Antiquity + Exploration): Economic + Cultural

You can find all of these Attributes breakdown on my Civs and Leaders site (https://civ7-civilizations-and-leaders.tiddlyhost.com/#Attributes)

Ahh, so thats what the attributes do, they give you a heads up about what rewards you get for narrative events. If it just told you about the civ/leader abilities it would be redundant but they obviously cant list every narrative event on the civ selection screen.

Some weirdness about Tecumseh: Is he Militaristic or Economic?

On his page at Civ 7 it says Diplomatic/Economic, and if you watch the YouTube video it starts with Diplomatic/Economic. flickers to Diplomatic/Militaristic and then goes back to Diplomatic/Economic.:crazyeye:

I wonder if the existence of Diplomatic and Expansionist here, means a future expansion in a couple of years may change the legacies to add those two and make it 6 legacies/victory conditions. Currently militaristic legacy is a mix of military and expansionist, which no legacy being very diplomatic (i guess maybe a bit of the culture one, possibly more in modern).

Introducing Tecumseh!

Attributes:
Diplomatic
Militaristic

Game Guide here: https://civilization.2k.com/civ-vii/game-guide/leaders/tecumseh/
You're right, something is wrong... The game guide says Diplo Economic, but @FXS_Sar introduction post said Diplo Militaristic.

I think it has been corrected afterwards, but as there is no update date on the game guide, it's difficult to know.

I believe we also showed Militaristic and Scientific during the Exploration Age stream, or at least part of them.

There are several ways of earning points, yes. Even some Wonders grant them. The listed Attributes for each civ and leader don't impact the potential for those other sources.

I will have to go back through the video to find it, thanks!

I presume that the attributes are local to the game session right? They don't carry over to the next game (except the bonuses unlocked by Legends?)

It would be better to mention it the Scientific Attribute is not completely shown in the screenshot. Considering the similarity between Cultural and Scientific trees, there will be 4 more items for it.
