So, Civilization VII has been announced, and there is already a thread about which civs we think are going to be in it, but let's also discuss what civs and leaders we would like to see most.
What would be your lineup for the vanilla, and DLCs? How many civs would you like to see? How many leaders per civ? Old ones or new ones?

I don't really care about alternate forms of leaders, so I'd be happy with those being out.

Actual alt leaders for civs are fun, but shouldn't be the default imo.

Other than that, gimme as many civs as possible.

Do I have any specific desires? No, not really. I'm not that knowledgeable about history, and most of my knowledge about individuals actually comes from Civilization.

I guess for the Netherlands, I would maybe enjoy seeing King William I, who spearheaded a lot of industrialization, but whose rule was blemished by his bad treatment of Belgium (which eventually led to a revolt where he fought a hopeless war and refused to back off even when all the great powers were urging him to), or otherwise Thorbecke, who designed the democratic system that we, in essence, still use today. Failing that, just go back to William of Orange. Wilhelmina was a bad choice imo, just a figurehead who never actually meant much beyond being an image to rally around while the country was occupied.

Vanilla (20 Civs):

Arabia - Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan
Assyria - Sennacherib
Burma - Alaungpaya
China - Taizu of Song
Denmark - Margaret I
Egypt - Hatshepsut
England - Edward Longshanks
Ethiopia - Ezana
France - Philip Augustus
Germany - Frederick II
Greece - Peisistratos
Gupta - Samudragupta
Japan - Hojo Masako
Kannadiga - Krishnadevaraya
Kanuri - Idris Alooma
Maya - Yuknoom Chʼeen II
Persia - Shapur II
Rome - Aurelian
Russia - Ivan III
Turkish - Murad II

Let's get wild with it and have France led by Robespierre.

More seriously, I want to see Ireland, ideally led by Grace O'Malley. I think we're long overdue for some representation of renaissance Italy as well, so I envision Florence as led by Lorenzo de' Medici. I'd like to see Songhai return. I'd like to (and expect to) see Argentina this time around. It'd be good to see the Mughal Empire, either representing India or as its own thing, and my favorite pick for leader there would be Shah Jahan, but there are several good options. I'd love love love to see Cherokee as led by Sequoyah. And I'm sure I could think of a bunch more.

For the basegame only, trying to shake the core veteran civs slots with some wack choices here and there.

1-Sumer: Gilgamesh (better mascot than Ghandi
2-Egypt: Nefertiti
3-Greece:Epaminondas
4-Rome: Marcus aurelius/Agrippina (unexpected controversial female leader slot)
5-China: Taizong of Tang
6-India: Akbar
7-Japan:Toyotomi hideyoshi
8-Arabia: Muhammad Ali (Egypt sultan)
9-England: Henry VIII
10-France: cardinal Richelieu
11-Russia: Olga of Kiev
12-Germany: Charles V
13-Angola: Ana Nzinga
14-Mali: Mansa Musa
15-America: Dwight D. Eisenhower
16-Brazil: Antonio conselheiro
17-Mayas: Pacal
18-Mongolia: Kublai Khan
19-Italy:Lucrezia Borgia(another controversial female leader slot)
20-Persia: Nader Shah (with horses)

Why not ditch Kings and Queens for England. Parliament has been the primary political power there since the glorious revolution, past time a Prime Minister was substituted in.

I say Margaret Thatcher sheerly for the uproar and to get any 2k offices in Scotland firebombed *maniacal laughter

Hey! Very long time lurker here. I'm so excited for VII.

Base game VI included 19 civs at launch (including the Aztecs), so I think it's fair to go up to 20 for this one.

  1. America - Ulysses S. Grant
  2. Arabia - Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan
  3. Benin - Idia
  4. Brazil - Pedro II...again? I'd like to be educated here
  5. China - Taizong
  6. Egypt - Hatshepsut
  7. England - Anne
  8. France - Louis XIV
  9. German - Maximilian I
  10. Greek - Cleisthenes
  11. Iroquois - Degonwadonti
  12. Japan - Hōjō Masako
  13. Maurya - Ashoka
  14. Maya - Pakal I
  15. Persia - Khosrow I
  16. Rome - Octavian
  17. Russia - Elizabeth
  18. Siam - Ram Khamhaeng
  19. Sogdia - Gurak
  20. Sumer - Gudea
Working on brushing up my historical knowledge every day so these leader choices are definitely not set in stone.

Persia: Nader Shah (with horses)

Persia - Khosrow I
I am a simple man: i see non-Achaemenid Iranian choices and I like.

Also, if Nader Shah returns, I wouldn't mind "speak to you on the beauty of horses" becoming a new "trade agreement" meme. So long as the Jazayerchi actually appear this time, not just as the name of his agenda!

I'll be "that guy" and say that unless they actually implement algorithms to make the different leaders actually play differently, it really doesn't matter what leaders they choose.

Then I'll be "this guy" and say that a large part of having different leaders in the first place is the flavor value of it.

Yep, that's the guy. Frederik Hendrik in Dutch. He could be an excellent siege-focused leader with bonuses to siege and support units, maybe even a mechanic that allows builders to be used as support units in sieges.

The issue here is that this isn't all that connected to the Netherlands as a whole otherwise - trade and water management/polders.

I'd say he fits better as a Great General.

As brazilian, I think Getúlio Vargas is a much more interesting historical character than Pedro II. He was a populist leader who made several industrial, labor and social reforms, negotiated with the US and the Third Reich (at the same time), allied with the Integralistas (the fascists of Brazil) to destroy the Brazilian communist movement and then betrayed the Integralistas and fought fascism (in Brazil and abroad, by joining the Allies), encouraged the colonization of western Brazil (at the time, more than 90% of the population lived on the coast), despite bringing universal suffrage to Brazil , became a dictator and a few years after being deposed, he was democratically elected president again... In the end, pressured by his opponents, he committed suicide and his last words were: "Nothing remains except my blood. I gave you my life, now I give you my death. I choose this way to defend you, for my soul will be with you, my name shall be a flag for your struggle.(...) Serenely, I take my first step on the road to eternity and I leave life to enter History.". He is a character full of contradictions, controversies, drama, and who governed the country in a very turbulent period.

America- Martin Luther King Jr.
Ireland- Michael Collins
Cherokee- John Ross
England- Alfred the Great
Egypt- Muhammad Ali
Kievan Rus (replace Russia)- Rurik
Mexico- Benito Juarez
Somalia- Muḥammad ibn 'Abdallāh Hassan
Israel- King Solomon
Maylay- Parameswara

Italy - made "Greek style" of "united" city states and countries, focusing on medieval and renaissance eras, with some ruler of Florence, Milan or whatever (there are some female rulers to choose from)

Timurids led by Tamerlane
Franks led by Charlemagne (or him being alternate leader for France and Germany)
Carthago returning, led by Hannibal

Russia - medieval ruler and flavor
France - Louis XIV or medieval ruler
England - medieval ruler or prime minister (Alfred the Great would be amazing for Anglo-Saxon England)
Poland - non - medieval ruler
Persia - non - Achaemenid ruler
Rome - Marcus Aurelius, for personality
Germany - other HRE emperor, I don't want to return to Prussia militarist archetype yet; alternately some post war respected leader would make for a great Peaceful Germany archetype
Ottomans - not Suleiman
Egypt - Hatshepsut (very probable)
China - not Qi Shi Huangdi or Wu Zetian, somebody fresh pls
India - anybody but goddamn Gandhi

I want Al-Andalus, Bohemia, Ukraine, Ireland, Ashanti, Burma, Mughals, returning Assyria - no leaders specified

I don't really care for Canada, Australia, Scythia, Scotland, Norway, Cree, Colombia, Maori, Kongo, boring one note Zulu, and in a way Mali (they are very cool but there is a TON other civs for West Africa). Also Sweden tbh, it was not *that* major country for it to come back every time, especially as we have mandatory Vikings. Unless they made Swedish Vikings this time, this could be very fresh interesting take.
