We've got even more to share after the livestream, because Ed Beach, our Creative Director, just dropped a new dev diary that digs into how victories work in Civ VII and our content roadmap for post-launch.

Give it a read!

What victory types are you aiming for first? What are you hoping to see for Civ VII post-launch? Let me know, and happy reading!

I really appreciate this. I've complained in the past about Firaxis's opaque communication about upcoming release schedules and this is exactly what I want to see

My first game I am not even aiming for a victory, juat trying things out.
Second game I am probably trying an Economic victory.

@FXS_Sar what is your favourite leader right now?

Did New Frontier pass have Roadmap? I don't think it was THIS detailed but I do remember one.

I also might actually try and invest in the challenges, hopefully they're slightly more excited and varied now that they can utilize different "scoring" systems.

The economic victory with the great banker sounds unique, while the rest are build a project. Does seem promising for them to shake up victory conditions a little more down the line though.

Looks like a lot of their high priority road map features listed by Ed involve multiplayer. Plus more maps.

Playing as Tecumseh I'll probably go for Cultural.

As for post-launch? Civs, Civs, Civs. I love the ages and transition system but it will need a lot more civs to truly flourish. Keep expanding the less covered areas and continents, and strengthen those transition lines, and the game will get amazing imo.

Yeah, sadly the stream didn't get around to showing off how much gold/influence each action needed, but at least you do need something for that. It's arguably the most boring, in that it's a little like the civ 6 culture where you can just slot a bunch of resources and hit end turn a lot until the banker shows up. But I think in practice at least it's a good separation from the others.

It's a little unfortunate that all the others are "complete a bunch of stuff, and then build a project" types. Hopefully they can find new challenges, to give different ways to finish off.

great writeup...

I'm having problems understanding the economic victory though. You have to build the great bank in EVERY capital, is that it ? What happens if you're NOT the only one going for this, and an AI civ actually builds one in some other capital city before you do ?
Can there be TWO or more great banks in a given capital city ? Very confusing to me honestly.

I think you are not actually putting down an actual building, so you just have to activate the banker in the capitals city center. You therefore can have duplicates if several people are competing for the economic victory.

No team multiplayer at launch is a huge disappointment. That's the way my friends and I like to play. Huge bummer.

I've been having a blast playing with Ibn Battuta and his wild card attributes! (I'm all about exploring the map and scooping up discoveries before my opponents can...)
Sure, here at the CFC, we like data mining too. ;)

You're not building a Building or Wonder in other players' capitals. The Great Banker performs an "Establish World Bank Office" action in those capitals, which all players are able to do if they have their own Great Banker unit. Let me know if that clears it up!

Not having the option for single-Age games at launch is mind-boggling. Like......I thought thay was the whole point? To chop a Civ game up and make it more flexible and easy to finish???

Also the victory conditions sans Economic are super disappointing. But I guess we'll see how it plays.

I think they can it just goes into a Score Victory only (you just turn off age transitions)

It does need to have
1. Actual victory mechanics for Antiquity/Exploration
2. a "Victory age" option so you could play a 2 age game as well (Antiquity start, Exploration victory)
