A note for Switch players: Update 1.2.0 – Patch 1 will be incorporated into our June update on Nintendo Switch, coinciding with the release of Civilization VII on Nintendo Switch 2. We appreciate your patience!

We're rolling out a patch that addresses some late-game performance drops, brings some stability improvements, and includes a handful of improvements in response to player feedback. We’re also heads-down on our next update, planned for early June, which will include plenty more improvements and updates across the game. Thanks for continuing to share your feedback and read on for the full patch notes below, or view them on Steam here.
  • Addressed a reported issue where late-game performance could noticeably drop, usually when opening and closing the Production menu.
  • Improved game stability.
  • The Map Icon for Wall Improvements will no longer visually appear to take an available slot when placing a Building on Districts during gameplay.
  • War support UI will now update right away when supporting an ally’s war.
  • Sugar is now treated as a Bonus Resource in the Modern Age.
  • Resolved placeholder text strings seen in the Challenges menu.
  • Addressed a reported issue where Tech / Civic icons disappeared when research queuing with Tutorials enabled.
  • Addressed a reported issue where Adjacency Arrows were only appearing the first time a Building was built.
Mac
  • 3D assets will now display when using MetalFX graphics options.

The download size for Windows/Steam is 639.1 MB. The build string is "1.2.0 (1120661)".

So good to see additional updates so fast!

"Sugar is now treated as a Bonus Resource in the Modern Age" is confusing me because I'm 99% sure it already was a bonus resource?

It somehow became an empire resource in 1.2. The bonus was "+6 food", so it didn't make any sense.
Yes...plus that for me (in a continued game from before the patch) it broke copies of the sugar resource slotted in settlements, which became completely immobile. Checked that save now again with the hotfix and that problem is gone.

Is anyone else getting tons of crashes on map load since this patch (or the original 1.2.0)? The game's perfectly stable if I manage to make it into the game, but it probably crashes while loading more than 3/4s of the time so it takes multiple tries to actually resume a game. Playing on PC, good specs, no mods, up to date

I've been having a similar issue basically since the beginning. Seems to happen during map generation (?) while either creating a new game or loading a save.

Not seeing this.

All I know to recommend is to verify files on steam and maybe reinstall if that doesn't work.

I did both (along with multiple hard reboots of the PC) and the crashes still happen. Either loading a save or making a new one almost always crashes (but when it doesn't, it stays fine ingame, and I can re-load from within a working game just fine). I have been playing since only a few days after release and haven't had any stability issues until now. The only thing I can think of is either the patch, or the fact I've been playing via steam local streaming (from my gaming PC to my laptop) about half the time recently - but I get the crashes regardless of if I do that or not.

Have you tried switching to Vulkan if you're using DirectX or vice versa?

I had to switch to Vulcan early on. Also, if your mods or saves are in OneDrive pause synching when playing. Especially if you use both a desktop and laptop at different times

Reporting back... verifying and reinstalling didn't fix anything. Changing from DX to Vulcan didn't fix anything. But... changing back from Vulcan to DX seems to have reduced the frequency of crashes substantially??? Heck if I know. But it seems better. That's the sequence I did things in, but I'm not sure what actually caused anything to change.

I can verify I have not fiddled with any onedrive settings. I don't think steam remote play would actually have file move, it's just video streaming.

Interestingly, I used to experience loading crashes before all the patches. but things seem to have stabilized by now. Here are things that I tried and helped to various degrees:

1. Go to %localappdata%\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization VII and delete the following two files:
- LegalChoice.cache
- LegalDocuments.cache

2. If you are using any kind of upscaling - disable it, along with all associated settings. In my case, this was AMD FSR, and turning it off seems to have fixed the issue permanently.
