Civilization VII Update 1.2.4 - August 19, 2025

The continuity option now includes the updated gold and influence carryover limits in addition to keeping all of your units in place through age transition. If you disable continuity, then none of those things applies. Basically, they're giving us a choice between the original rubber banding design and the new "continuity" design.
The rubber banding would be fine if Fleet commanders didn't get stranded (they should add a "Relocate" ability to Fleet commanders where they.. and all their ships.. move from one of your Urban Water districts to another (over X turns based on distance)

Mods seem to create graphic (and maybe other) problems after the update. But when I started a new game, I could not even disable my mods because the add-on page in the main menu is just empty. Do I really have to delete the whole mods section on my harddrive?
EDIT: Had to unsubscribe from "TCS improved mod page" to make addons visible in the main menu again. Don't know yet if other mods were broken by the patch.

Definitely more that are broken. I didn't have that one, but I'm using TCS Improved Plot Tooltip which would block tooltips outright, compact production chooser which is also not fuctioning right now - both through workshop - and an old mod called Off The Grid which stopped disabling grid, too. I can't properly zoom out my camera, either. Feels like a breaking change to the addon APIs on the whole.

I'm not sure how to read this comment, partly because I don't know the underlying facts. Is regroup untouched from carrying over more gold and influence (hopefully)? Or is it an ironic comment?

@Siptah: As @Kwami put it, I am thankful that those changes to be able to carry over more gold & influence is restricted to the continuity-option. I belong to the minority that likes the regroup-option as it is, well sometimes I'd whish the reset to be even harsher.

Thanks for clarifying. We are in the same boat: i prefer regroup, and wish the setback was more drastic/effective. I just wish units and ships wouldn't teleport to random settlements but the closest tiles in your territory while ignoring lakes.

I found regroup pretty annoying, especially after exploration, when you see your distant lands settlements stripped from their garrisons and those defending units resting inside commanders half of the map away from their settlements. Sure, it was possible to fix those problems in some other way, but I found continuity a really fun mode and don't want to go back. Once AI will learn how to handle it properly in future patches, that would be just great.

Hmmm. It looks like tile information is not displayed when you mouse hover over a tile. Bug in 1.2.4?

very hard update for mods...

so far I've got 6 mods that bugged the game into being unplayable (tcs mod page, tcs improved tooltip, city hall, wonder screen+claimed wonder notation and slothoth global relation panel)

on top of that, I've got 4 that are not working properly without bugging the game (detailed map tacks, detailed wonders cinematics, discovery lens and player combat power)

very hard to be back playing without some of these, as they are power QOL mods...

hopefully they'll be fixed rapidly thanks to the dedication of the mod authors

Modders are great, so hopefully it won't take long to get them updated. I've got a similar mod list, will need to wait for them to update to play without frustration.

Yeah, lots of stuff broken, but the legacy branch on steam works fine, so if you had a game in progress that you want to finish, that works in a pinch.

It’s good that they improved some of the wonders, because I used to only build half a dozen of them while completely ignoring the rest. In the Modern Age, the only one I ever ended up building in most of the times was Oxford University.

Speaking of the Modern Age, I really hope they’re already working on a major rebalancing of it, because I can barely experience it—someone almost always secures a victory, most of the time before turn 100. I hardly ever bother researching the unique civics because… why would I? At that point, all that matters is the race to win.

Maybe 1 food 1 happy everywhere (ala Forbidden city) or 2 Happy here 2 Food everywhere
I can feel the difference in exploration age, but little to no difference at all in Modern Age--probably due to the happiness bug fix. Will need to play more games to see how actually big of a nerf it is.

I see you are playing with a lot of the mods that I use also. In my case, they simply don't load or appear in the game any more. I tried playing a game without them, but had forgotten just how wretchedly, spastically, bad beyond all previous recorded levels of badness the game's provided UI is, and I just couldn't stand it.

As an aside, it took about 3 years for Civ VI to get so consistently bad that I couldn't play without Mods, it took Civ VII less than 6 months to reach the same point.

Back to the Legacy version for now, but will keep monitoring the progress of the Modders in updating their works: some mods are already in the works for update, so I'm optimistic it won't take too long.

Current problem: After starting the game, I see the main menu, but after clicking on "new game" I only get a blank screen and only the mouse pointer is visible. Then I can only end the game in the steam app.
I had disabled all mods (even the updated ones), but still no playing possible. Does anybody else have this issue?

EDIT: Never mind, after several restarts the game behaves normally again. BUT: What an incredible MESS this is without the mods that made this playable. I'm devastated how bad the original UI still is.
