Watching a lot of YouTube footage and reading comments, I get the impression that people feel that Civ7 is "stealing" ideas from Humankind and Millennia, as if that's some kind of a bad thing. The irony to me is that, when I play other 4x games, there are definitely moments where I think, "This is really cool. I wish civ did it this way. They'll never change that, though." I know other people have also thought this at times.

This isn't a post to claim that every change Civ7 is making will be a good one. However, I for one am quite glad that Firaxis is allowing themselves to be influenced by some of the cool ideas other 4x games have come up with. So I say: bring on the Civillenniakind... (with both sets of fingers crossed).

Forgive me, are you comparing the user base of a triple AAA game published by a large publisher (SEGA) compared to a 4x deckbuilder by a small publisher (Yogscast Games)?

He should probably show us how many total players this deckbuilder released by a publisher most didn't even know exists had at its height if he actually wants to make between Humankind and Hexarchy

I totally agree with the premise that it's good they're trying different things for the series. A sequel needs cool, new ideas to justify itself.

I have to admit, I have no idea what direction this thread has taken, and I even started it.
A few people are very angry, and they're also very angry that not everyone is as angry as they are. Best to ignore them and let them gnash their teeth...

you think Humankind, a historical 4x game that was advertised by megapublisher Sega as a civ killer which sold over a million and had launch player base of tens of thousands which it lost in a couple monthts is apples.... and... oranges to Civilization series?
Didn’t sell over a million, and yes, they’re both fruits. One is considered king of the fruits and the other is just what you drink for breakfast when you’re too young for coffee.

Humankind was NEVER going to do the numbers that Civ does, and it’s pointless to point to it as proof of whatever argument you’re trying to make. It’s like looking at the reveal of Halo 2 and pointing at Rise of Triad as proof of dual wielding being a bad idea

Thats' fine: the situation is resolved, a few people (did you count them?) are angry, and since they don't think CIV 7 will be wonderful (like Humankind 🤦‍♂️) they should shut up, is that better?

Well, out of curiosity, what exactly are the "cool ideas" of Humankind you are longing for here? 🤔

Here are some of the better or interesting Civ 7 ideas that are similar to what's in Humankind:

- Civ switching per age
- Soft caps for settlement limits to reduce city spam and make founding cities more thoughtful
- Streamlining of districts + improvements
- Streamlining of civilian units
- Terrain elevation

I'm not saying Civ "stole" those ideas, but they are ideas that are also in Humankind that I think are good ideas.

Didn’t sell over a million,

Sorry it sold near a million* and that was simply off hype and marketting comparing it to Civ. It would've done even better if it wasn't complete trash

and yes, they’re both fruits. One is considered king of the fruits and the other is just what you drink for breakfast when you’re too young for coffee.

this is an argument born of cope

Humankind doesn't need to do exact Civ numbers, it's the fact thatit goes on sale for $5 dollars now and lost 99% of its playerbase within a year with mixed reviews

They should have told SEGA earlier, it probably wouldn't have financed Amplitude and instead would have forced them to produce new DLC for Endless Space 2 or Endless Legend:rotfl:

I would appreciate it if you guys would take an unrelated discussion into its own thread, but of course, I can't force you. Just asking nicely. This thread was not meant to be about whether Humankind was a successful game or not. It's about gameplay mechanics that are in other 4X games that Civ7 has adopted. (Friendly reminder that we are in the Civ7 subforum, not the Humankind one).

Well it does get tiring when they feel they need to jump in on every positive thread and voice their opinions. We get it. You don't like Civ switching and think it will flop . . . fine. Can you just please let us discuss the things we are interested in?

Really don't like where Civ 7 is going? Start your own thread and discuss it. Instead we have a lot of haters just trying to run down every discussion.
