Well, hmm.
I tried to find game interface entries in the civilopedia.
I am finding nothing about hotkeys/controls.
The manual does include some of this information.
... I expected to be able to find it ingame as well.
... ... Kicking out to desktop
... ... ... to open a 223 page manual
... ... ... isn't an ideal choice.
For a strategy game (re:civilopedia),
... I was startled to discover the word 'strategy' yields no search results.
... 'Hotkey' no search results.
... 'Strategic Layer' no search results.
I find information on pre-colombian structure of empires goodjob,
... yet, none on how to use the game interface.
Impressions so far:
... The game has been ejoyable to play.
... The game has been simple.
... Grand Mesa as a round-top mound is odd.
... Why does the palace have a hammer cost of 1?
... Purchasing a build is all or nothing.
... ... The cost did not decrease as hammers were spent.
... ... Why rush a building for an increasing cost/hammer???
... ... (building cost the same amount
... ... ...no matter how many turns left to build, from 7/7 turns to 1/7 turns)
... The game tells me I built a unit even when it was a building.
... My first combat was as confusing as Civ IV.
... ... 1st odds 1:1 (on a hill, barbs on grassland below)
... ... Next turn odds show 'Decisive Victory'
... ... The difference?
... ... ... I stepped off hill and onto open grassland next to barbs.
... ... ... I expected -33% but instead gained 25% ???
... ... Next turn (stepping onto wheat resource, unimproved, next to barbs)
... ... ... -33% !!! There it is!
... ... Next turn below 1:1 (barbs fortified)
... ... Next turn Social Policy:Honor = 'Decisive Victory'
... ... ... I used it (from open grassland), bye-bye fortified barbie.
I don't know if it is game changes or bugs, but something doesn't feel right in the strategy so far. Time will tell.
On a personal note (from my own cultural background):
... The opening movie was most disturbing.
... I find no appeal in:
... ... building a tower into the heavens,
... ... killing my neighbors,
... ... or personal glory.
... I accept that modern strategy games involve warfare.
... I don't like when warfare is 'glorified'.
... RE: Conflict Resolution
... ... Shouldn't warfare be the last choice of civilized people?
... ... (the simplest and least effective choice IMO)
