Hi

It's only a graphical thing but happpiness from an allied mercantile CS shows as "National happiness from social policies" in the happiness breakdown in the top bar.

Screenshot attached from a turn where I just allied one. I don't have any social policies effecting happiness at that point in the game.

Sure? What are your social policies?

Hmmm. Seems like I shouldn't be so categoric about this cause when I tried it in a new test game this morning using the fire tuner it didn't seem to be entirely connected to the cs happiness.

I did manage to get the happiness from policies shown even though I hasn't adopted a single policy yet though so there's definitely some kind of display thing going on here.

Well, seems it is definately linked to the base happiness you get from allied or frindlied mercantile CS'ses. Just allied one and got "+3 National happiness from social policies" (only had the Tradition Opener at that point).

Some turns later, when the status dropped to Frienly and therefore happiness from the CS to two, I got "+3 National happiness from social policies".

Well, finlly figured out what happens.

When you ally or befrind a mercantile CS you get a dummy building in the capital called National Happines x3 or National Happines x2. This comes up as the National happiness from social policies, which I guess isn't that good a description.

The reason I missed it in the test game from post 4 is that it doesn't show until the turn after you ally/befrind the CS.

Thanks for bringing this up; it should be fixed in Civup v2.4.

The reason for the mistake is the only way to get happiness from citystates in VEM was a Patronage-tree policy. Now we have mercantile citystates... hmm... I don't think it's possible to easily distinguish the two sources of happiness. I'll have to just lump the happiness from policies into a generic "citystates" line.
