Anyways, so I admit I haven't followed this story through, but if you all remember this thread:
    http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=342926&highlight=michael+mann
that was about hacked emails that naysayers of global warming said showed scientists at the University of East Anglia and its correspondents to be making a bit of a conspiracy or that the scientists were unconfident in the proof for global warming.

Well, just recently one of the top global warming researchers, Michael Mann, was cleared of any wrongdoing by a panel at his University.

And I dunno if this was ever posted (I searched briefly with search function), but back in April a report found that, "work has been carried out with integrity, and that allegations of deliberate misrepresentation and unjustified selection of data are not valid." (full report here: http://www.uea.ac.uk/mac/comm/media/press/CRUstatements/SAP)

and here is a BBC link on that April report:
    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/8618024.stm

which states at the beginning of the article:

now, for criticisms of the report, the article states how:

But, this criticises the methodology of the report and not the content from what I tell.

Overall, it seems investigations have found the climate research being done to be non-fraudulent. Interesting--critiques of global warming have not had their claims backed up.

So, it appears that investigations into this "controversy" have found the scientists to have not done wrong. Certainly no "conspiracy" or falsification of data.

While not commenting on the validity of global warming, isn't an ethics peer review always a bit dubious? - cops protecting cops, doctors covering for doctors...

Not when it has this much scrutiny. There was never any fire behind the smoke in the first place. Not outside of political circles, in any case.

Yes, it nearly always is to be taken with a grain of salt. However, there IS the fact that the 'leaked' emails were streamlined in order to raise a ruckus, and that no one has actually found an actual smoking gun within them.

And there's my ubiquitous link about global temperatures! It's a fun one! And it's not East Anglia. (edit: use the 'draw graph' button on the bottom left to get started)

For what its worth, as a Penn State student, everyone here knew that the inquiry would come to nothing and that, furthermore, this type of thing happens all the time in academic circles.
