Clive01 - Warlords Prince Conquest / Domination

Patience - reporting tonight

Yes - any news O Venerable One ? :)

I'd particularly like to know what people think about specialists / great people after Bede has posted his turns.

Normally I am running quite a few by this stage but as I recall we are currently just running 2 scientists in the capital.

I still think it would be a good idea to run a couple in Tortola if we can - it should be able to support 2 scientists due to the 2 fish and still grow once we have a harbour.

This is too much - I posted the report with all the pictures asked for by the Admiral, now I have to figure out what thread I posted in :hmm:

Oh well - I hate Windows - close the wrong one and you are toast!

The world is round and our caravel wiill meet his galley sister before a second caravel could sail that far east

Civ4ScreenShot0030.jpg

So caravel # 2 can do missionary ferry duty.

Met a Mongol and a Russian

Civ4ScreenShot0022.jpg

Civ4ScreenShot0025.jpg

Would the offspring of these two be mongrel Russians, or rushed Mongols?

Khan of course won't agree to anything and the Russian has nothing to offer.

Met the Khan west of the home island and the Russian in the strait south of Toloisa where Seville now stands.

These Spielberg moments brought on a period of reflective map gazing and I think Wang makes a nice juicy target for our army

Civ4ScreenShot0031.jpg

Of course we have no army yet so let's start building one now that Elephants are trainable and cats can be built

This announcement may have played a role in the decision

Civ4ScreenShot0018.jpg

Following that newsflash the diplomats cut some deals

Civ4ScreenShot0019.jpg

This must be some kind of Holy War and they needed some kind of backbone as I then made this deal

Civ4ScreenShot0020.jpg

It always helps when you are supplying the backstabber's knife , but at least he won't be using it against us.

The acquisition of Currency really helped and we may want to buy oour letters sometime, but no hurry. I would rather have the war machine all geared up and ready to travel before we learn how to send out extortion letters.

Here is the state of play in the world

Civ4ScreenShot0032.jpg

And the tech tree

Civ4ScreenShot0027.jpg

So let's get out the whip and draft some soldiers and impress some sailors. Tolosa can take over the science duties of Madrid once its library gets built or Madrid pops its scientists. Tolosa is the place if you want to birth Great People - just decide what you want to grow and build the enabler building. I am partial to Merchants on these maps myself.

This is the part of water maps play that has me doing backflips -boats or bombardiers, boats or bombardiers and I can never make up my mind. If you want a plan I think building the fleet first, then filling it with troops, or vice versa, I don't care.

But we really should strike at Korea by way of Seville while "the iron is hot"

Panama City will pop borders in 2 turns, we'll be able to go west with galleys :)

We should build caravels for defend our sea resources, too. Qin might want to draw us into war with Wang, soon. We should prepare for his triremes.

Engineering is fine. Will need HBR for our UU, trade it or research it ourselves? Not to mention Alphabet, for tech trading.

Nice work Bede !

That war could sure be handy for us. Is it worth building a settler to put on a boat just in case either of the islands directly to our east have their cities razed and we can jump in there ?

A couple of thoughts re our cities -

Panama City is working 1:food: ,1:hammers: ,1:commerce: where
1:food:,3:hammers:,1:commerce: is unworked . Is this in order to have
the cottage grow or should we make use
of the extra :hammers: ?

Porkopolis has surplus food.
In 4 turns it can grow . Apart for the
1:food:,3:hammers:,1:commerce: shared with Panama City the
only other tiles are desert or coast (currently only 1:food: as
we don't have lighthouse yet)
Would it be sensible to employ an Engineer here when it grows again ?

ClivePanPork.JPG

Tortola would be good GP source - it is currently +9
:food:. However we don't have any of the neccessary buildings
to employ a specialist.

CliveTortola2.JPG

Oh yeah! A report! :D And a save! :D

Well, well. As usual, I cannot see it now. Good to know that we are not the worst in techs. Stalin doesn't have Alpha too! ;)
I'm sure Bede left me a bunch of "volunteers" to :whipped:. I love this part of the game.
And I'm sure we need Astronomy. Wang has CS. Maybe we can convince him to share it with us later. But I think we should go for Conquistadores now. For this we need HBR and Guilds. The Khan has it, but won't share. Wang doesn't have it and I don't feel like trading Machinery to Qin just yet.

I don't know if I read accurately... Have we circumnavigated the globe? Have we met everybody already?

So, for my 10/15 turns (it depends if Qin asks us to declare war or not), my plan is:
  • Finish Engineering
  • Build an army
  • :whipped: A LOT! :mwaha:
  • Build a market and run Merchants in Tolosa (is that ok?)
  • Begin researching Guilds (is that ok?)

I'm gonna get it in about.... 10 hours from now. :)

We haven't circumnavigated yet - here's what's left to do

CliveGlobe1100.JPG

We've met Wang, Qin, Genghis and Stalin so we still have 2 civs left to meet

I'm popping out for some lunch now - back about 15-30 GMT so let me know if there is anything else you want info on since I have a fairly free afternoon (truth is I have just been to the gym for the first time in about 15 years and I am too knackered to do anything constructive :) )

15:30 GMT is about 1:30 hours from now. Would you like to play a turnset? You don't want to do anything else! :p
I'll only get home in 8 hours or so. If nobody opposes...

Just got back to find a number of emails re job propects I have to respond to .

I might have time to play 5 turns or so . If I do , I'll post a 'got it ' in about 1-2 hrs and the save / report before you're back tonight fb.

I'll just continue researching engineering and try to build some military. However we'll have to watch the cash situation. We currently have 10 in the bank but are at -9 gpt with sci at 60%. I'm going to have to put this down to at least 50% on the first turn.

If Qin asks us to declare on Wang I will wait for advice....

OK - I'm going to play 5 turns now by which time engineering will be complete.

Plan -

Switch citizen in Panama from 1 :hammer: tile to 3 :hammer: tile
until Porkopolis needs it.

Reduce :science: rate so we don't go bankrupt.

Continue exploring.

Try to start a build on our military where possible.

Try not to :smoke: too much.

BTW - I had problems with my ISP last night and had no web / email access for about 2 hours. Hopefully it will be OK tonight. I should have posted the save by 20-00 London time at the latest. If you don't see anything by then fbel it probably means I can't access the forum so go ahead and play the existing save and we'll ditch my turns.

Roster

fbelintani - Up after Clive's five
The Sansman - On deck
Sir Clive - Taking 5 turns due to boredom
Sirloin -
negyvenketto -
Bede - Just played

I only played 3 rather than 5 since Qin has asked us to declare on Wang.

I can't post a save until we have decided what to do so please let me know so I can post the save for fb. I think it is a bit early to declare.

Pre-flight check -

Science - 50 % - now at +4 gpt
Switch citizen in Panama City. Forge now due in 24 turns.
Switch prod in Torola from Courthouse to Library (due in 13) so that
we can employ some specialists.

Hit Enter

Madrid - Lighthouse -> War Elephant
Wang asks us to declare war on Qin . I refuse as politely as I am able :(
Ivory Coast - Lighthouse->Library
Havana Confucion Missionary -> War Elephant (already queued)

1) - 1110 AD

Not sure what to do with Confucian Misionary in Havana. Presumably he should be sent out
to Seville ?

IT - Ivory coast and Panama City both expand borders

2) - 1120 AD

Our westward bound caravel disovers some light blue borders

It's Alexander.

CliveAlex1120.JPG

I get Monarchy, Alphabet and Horseback Riding for
Compass and 2 minor techs.

Tech situation is now as follows -

CliveTechs1120.JPG

We can also get fur from Genghis for our spare banana. He hasn't met anyone else yet
so we won't get a 'Traded with our worst enemy' penalty so I do it.

I'm starting to run out of things to do with our workers :(

IT - Wang asks us to cancel our deals with Qin. Of course I refuse .

3) - 1130 AD

Science up to 60% (27g , -6 gpt)

Forgot to check for whipping opportunities last couple of turns.
Check them and wield the lash with a vengeance.

Rush Galley in Barcelona, Forge in Panama, Forge in Porkopolis,
Library in Tortola , War Elephant in Madrid

Alexander has Literature but wants Machinery for it . Not
sure this is a good exchange (although 2 other civs have machinery)
so will leave this for the next player

Confucian missionary fails to spread religion in Tortola :(

Now we get this -

CliveQinWar1130.JPG

I've been staring at this for about 20 mins and cant make up my mind
whether to agree or not . We obviously want to keep Qin friendly for now
but it's a few turns too early in my mind to go to war since our military is
still pretty weak. What will be the negative factor if we refuse ?

We're at +6 at the moment and given our current military strength I'd rather
stay out of war for now, hope Qin batters Wang a bit and then we can join in and mop up
the pieces once our military is stronger.

Here's what we currently have

CliveMilitary1130.JPG

Due to the map type it's probably not going to be that easy for Wang to do us too
much damage, but if we do stay out whoever wins the war (if there is a clear
winner) will be further ahead of us

I know we're going for domination / conquest but my
gut feeling is to keep out of war for the moment.

I'm going to stop here but I obviously can't post a save until we make
a decision on whether to say yes or no to Qin.

I say: let's :hammer:!!!!

We have a good navy to, at least, give Wang some trouble if he comes. We can always :whipped: an army. :)
Take the two jumbos to a Galley and send to that island close to our horses. At least, they will annoy him a little.

Nice trade to Alex. And about the Genghis one... I'd take a metal, but since it's a :) face, I'd do it. We can always cancel 10 turns later.

I think first we need a strong navy. They can reach us only in galleys so we need caravels to stop them. We just :whipped: cities so I would say no to war now. Qin will ask us again.

OK - I am going to post the save at 21-30 UK time as I think fbel says he will be back at 22-00 UK time.

At the moment it's fb for :hammer: , nevy for  and I'm somewhere in between. :undecide: which makes the whole thing 50/50.

Seeing as it should have been fb's turn anyway I'm therefore going to side with him , go along with Qin and :hammer: Wang if I don't hear from anyone else.

lurker's comment: Look at post #155. Wang is going liberal on you. Declare. Deploy some boats to keep him away from your lands. Qin and Wang are your tech rivals. Having them fight each other shouldn't hurt.

@ bede - thanks for the pix.
