Colonies PBEM

It should be noted, that France has extorted 4 techs from the English as well, in exchange for one of their own. This was not done willingly, but only as part of the peace agreement England was forced to make.

France is confident that the techs she possses that england lacks are more than one (common John I've got the tech you are researching, and you allready said that you lacked Combustion) there is no point in making me look worse than I allready do ;) :(

England is free to keep its colony on Nova Scottia, France was merely pointing out that she hadn't known about it.

Of course the French king also wishes to convey his condoleances to the English people, at the loss of thier beloved monarch Queen Anne.

The French king will also attend the funeral in St.Paul's.

We do however retain our claims to New Providence, we have taken nothing from the Spanish, our allies should perhaps remember that they had nothing against France's expansionistic plans when this war was planned after the incident in Mosquito Coast (on the contrary actually...). Slandering us is perhaps something Spain should avoid as we are thier friends and not thier enemies...

The Dutch minister speaks:

Both the Spanish minister and myself, having consulted with his holines, the pope, Crixtxos II, cannot accept the treaty invoked by the warring powers.

The Spanish minister feels very strongly, as does the papel legate and myself, that New Providence MUST remain English, this is an English colony, taken from pirates, and filled with Englishmen. We ask that the French ambassador reconsider on this colony.

Also, Holland granted Buffalo to Britain as special dispansation, as it was cleary in new holland, and we cannot accept another power isolating fort Orange, we ask, most humbly, that our lands be returned to the Dutch people.

Holland would be happy to provide three salves to France for their trouble, vis-a-vis Buffalo, and would work with Spain on the new provedence issue, but we must insist on this, Bufalo is an integral part of new Holland.

We look foward to hearing from the great minister Henri, good news on these issues.

For the Spanish minister,
and the papel legate,

Lord Van Kris Endhoven

Foriegn minister for the Staadholdr and people of the United Provinces

John, CFC is far more reliable, let's keep the game here. ;)

1.- New Providence belongs geographically to the territory of Florida

2.- I've got an army ready to take the island, the french minister knows pertty well that during this war i wanted to focus the english atention to the eastern antilles, not to Florida.

3.- Spain did not ask for french help in this conflict, France voluntarely honoured the "defensive" agreement signed, and such support was very welcome

4.- After the Bananas incident, Spain considered herself morally whitin her rights to wipe out all kind of piracy from the caribbean sea

5.- Spain conseders herself rightful victor of this war and will try for all means to solve her problems at this conference no to change them

6.- Spain has voluntarely renounced to settle in northern North America, and this is why will only allow in the Caribbean Sea the existence of foreign safe harbours but will never permit expanding settlements which may threat the security of the Spanish colonies.

Sorry if i'm intruding in on the game, but i just have to say that this is a great game!
Carry on:goodjob:

Piedmont ambassador wishes this peace over colonies to last for many, many years, since there are sinister rumors of war in European countries. His Mayesty the Emperor Charles VI seems to be hilled, and everyone is afraid he'll day without male heirs. For now, it seems that the Prussian King, Frederick William "The Sergeant", is going to sign the Prammatic Sanction...

End of the bullettin.

Acording to France New Providence is it's own geographical territory, in fact this port is needed to guard French shiping routes to the valuable colonies of St. Marc. and Nouvelle Orleans...

2.- I've got an army ready to take the island, the french minister knows pertty well that during this war i wanted to focus the english atention to the eastern antilles, not to Florida.

And so has France, the army based at Tortuga is quite capable of seizing controll of New Providence (especially as we move befoer the spanish ;)) but this should not play any part in the treaty's signing, this is a peace treaty, not a premature dividing of England.

5.- Spain conseders herself rightful victor of this war and will try for all means to solve her problems at this conference no to change them

In what way would this change your problems for the worse? ;)

All we are asking for is the rights to the port city of New Providence, we need it as a harbour on our way to other colonies in the mexican gulf.

It is strange that you should increase your demands for territory with the excuse that we increased ours, did I not infact show that our demands decreased?
True our demands where higher than the ones the Spanish and Dutch foreign ministers agreed on, but those where hardly our demands...

6.- Spain has voluntarely renounced to settle in northern North America, and this is why will only allow in the Caribbean Sea the existence of foreign safe harbours but will never permit expanding settlements which may threat the security of the Spanish colonies.

As I recal Spain owns colonies north of Florida, that atleast to me equals North American colonies...

We are not asking to expand any settlements, we are asking for a safe harbour in the west indies, to allow our shiping routes to be safe of Pirates and bucanners.

In what way does this threaten Spain's colonies?

Spain is allready the dominant power in the Caribbean sea, all we are asking for is the ports needed to ship our goods between our new world colonies and old world cities.

We are however offering the Spanish to accept the port city of "Port Anglais" in compensation of New Providence.

We assure the ambassador that lasting peace is in our best interest.
In case the throne should remain heirless, may we sugest the fine nobleman, Jean de Lohmandér as the new monarch?

England is not longer a threat since is being quartered for the sake of the spanish bananas and France has become the militar superpower. Seems quite obvious to me that whoever poseses New Providence will threat the rest of the territory of La Florida.

Tortuga is pretty well located to serve such purpose.

That's not exact, France has duplicated the 1st spanish proposal including an old spanish claim (NP), i will only come to my 1st proposal if France renounce to her claim over NP (and any other caribbean col). And btw France is who has used the alnglo-spanish war as an excuse to seize the british empire

I was refering to northern North America, and if the french claim over NP persists Spain perhaps mades a new one over New Haven, Buffalo or St.John

Interesting, but you should equal the NP size (3). What about P.anglais(1)+Fort Royal(2)

I would say that the island of New Providence would be quite vulnerable as it is surounded by spanish territory on all sides ;)

The french army might have proven superior to the english for the time being, but I am pretty confident that the Spanish navy and army is quite competent as well (with all those boarding parties you have...).

Tortuga is pretty well located to serve such purpose.
Since when does Tortuga border the mexican gulf

As I am sure John can tell you the french claims for New Providence existed long before I posted them here, if Spain should demand us to do so we will let them have a look at the Anglo-French corespondance...

This offer will be considered.

What proves its geographical belonging to the General Captaincy of La Florida :D

Evacuation of English cities comenced.

Oh and as it seems the spanish ambasador has given up on the New Providence issue :p we are expecting to take over said colony as soon as its evacuated. ;)

The Spanish diplomatic representation would like the French envoy to stop picking his nose and pay a bit more atention to the different spanish proposals:

1.- NP remains under english control and Spain will not increase her demands

2.- NP passes under french control and Spain will recive New Haven, Buffalo, or St. John

3.- NP passes under french control in exchange of the two french settlements in Haiti, and the rest of french claims will be considered acceptable

Under no circunstances Spain will permit the cesion of NP without previous agreement from all the parts, therefore the authorities of Floridad order the British troops in New Providence to remain in the island until further notice.

We generously offered to give spain one colony in compensation for thier obvious discomfort at the Anglo-French peace treaty, and what was Spains response?
They wanted to us to give them twice as much in order to get a colony from the english...
Is there any logic in this?

Where is the dutch mediator when you need him ;)

renounce to your claim over NP, as easy as that.

Whilst the English watch the Bourbon allies "discuss" the issue of New Providence with some wry amusement, we do need to know how this is going to be resolved, as it will soon be time to evacuate English forces if that is the way forward.

England would obviously prefer to retain the colony, and as France negotiated its claim directly with England rather than alongside their allies, this is how the difficulty has arisen.

In the spirit of peace now prevailing, we make the following suggestions:

1) England retain NP and compensate France in another area. Compensation for France could take the form of cash or another colony. Compensation would not be of a nature to offend Spanish interests, and would be cleared with Spain first.

This solution would placate both the Spanish and the Dutch, as will as winning France friends in the English Parliament. France would also gain directly.

2) France take NP as agreed with England (but not Spain, it seems) and compensate Spain with colonies of an equivalent value (Port Anglais and Fort Royal?) It would be a fine gesture that would improve her foreign relations if France sweetened the deal with a small concession to England, but this is not demanded.

The third option presented by Spain, mentioning New Haven, Buffalo and St John's is likely to cause yet more problems, as these settlements are English, French/Dutch and English, by the terms of the recent agreement. The ownership of Buffalo is still in dispute. The only nation it won't be controlled by is the English! :(

A note to the French concerning Technologies. Only Combustion is relevant here, as England is about to discover Radicalism. Combustion is of use only on the path to Iron Foundries, and England always intended to trade directly for that (or Refining, at least), so it is still a very unbalanced tech swap. Nevertheless, that was agreed, and England will honour her agreements. All of England's techs will be swapped for all of France's.

Chris, I agree CivFanatics is miles more useable. This is the new home of the Colonies PBEM. Incidentally, I have not forgotten Bonaparte II (it was just a rather busy Christmas) but it will be released this month and should be ideal as a PBEM - with as many players as possible. They just need to be reliable ones! Mind you, the peace treaty negotiations will be fearfully complex, if all the discussion over NP is an indication! ;)

Secret note to His Royal Highness of Savoy

European diplomacy in turmoil. Prince Charles of Bavaria refused to sign and recognize the Prammatic Sanction. As monsieur Henrik said replying to my private note, French are claiming some rights to the Empire's Crown. Is Charles their personal protegèe?
I'll investigate about that...:D It's however in Piedmont interests to tame all of the possible warspots. The crisis is approaching, and for sure it'll be a shock for the entire european system. I'll try to propose a solution for that Buffalo affair. Awaiting for instructions.;)

My dear Count Goddi,

I'm sure all of the parties appreciate your intention to mediate. Good luck! You'll need the wisdom of Solomon to sort this one out without someone feeling hard done by...

A bit of special pleading. The Dutch, and to a large extent now, the English, are second-rate powers. The game would certainly be made more interesting by a redress of that imbalance....

Lord Albemarle.

The English have moved.

To show good faith, while the fine details of the peace treaty are worked out, English troops have withdrawn from Fort Niagara and have rebased. This settlement can now be occupied by the French.

Several other settlements have been abandoned, but cannot yet be ceded, as the units from them have not yet rebased.

How are we going to settle the techs and money guys? Your attitude to the English is still "Hostile". Are we going to do all the city swaps first?

Piedmont propose this solution for the Buffalo affaire:

a) this city will remain english;

b) every civ will receive a colonist from this city ( at your pleasure, Lord Chancelor, to stab the order and deliverance times );

c) as testifying action of peace, all of the fortresses - if there are any - that last more then a square out of this city shall be removed by Englishmen.

Waiting for good will signals from other european powers.

Note to his Royal Highness of Savoy

In spite of all, French ambassador signed yesterday the Austrian Prammatic Sanction. With this act, France officially recognise Marie Therese as new Empress. But two points are still unclear.

1) :midfinger: Empire's promises about Milan and Lumbardy seems to be gone with that. Hope to gain some other territories ( Finale? Genoa itself? Corsica? ) as exchange value for signing this Prammatic Sanction. :)

2) There's a secret article on this theatry, which argument is still obscure. Has someone sensed something? :) Need some money to pay my spies. Hope his Royal highness will pay some valuable gold for this... ;)
