I don't like the way artillery now works, as it did in CIV III (I mean those units could have been captured => undestroyable, once they were created, they fired from some range (2 hexes), etc)? Same goes to navy, as it could bombard an opponent's infrastructure (which could bring it to its knees). What's with animations of an fighter intercepting a bomber, where they gone to? I mean getting a message that your aircraft has been intercepted in the log, isn't just thrilling. I think that the combat system is just worse now. Not that the previous one the perfect one, we all know its drawbacks.

Artillery was way overpowered in Civ 3, so i'm very glad for the change. Same for navy bombarding. As for graphics, i which they put less emphasis on graphics, not more. Give me 2D civ 1 type graphics anyday over what we have now. The combat system is the best it's ever been, by far.

I agree. I think that all units pre-dateing gunpowder should be un-able to engage aircrafts. Also I think that you should be able to fire bombardment-units such as catapults and artilleries from a town or city to an enemy force out-side the city and also just in the field.

About overpowering this may be so, but why the omission of a ranged attack? It looks very silly, when you now attack an unit with an artillery piece, that it dies as a consequence of that. An artillery piece is as such an ranged weapon. The ranged attack should have been kept. In CIV 3 I've used vast amounts of artillery (100+) do bring down the strength of an incursive army, and finish them off with much smaller army of my own. Why isn't that realistic? In fact this was an important measure against AI excessive production of military units. I agree with you about graphics, now it looks very fancy, but I was already content with the graphics of CIV 3. But what looks fancier, sells better!

Artillery and siege weapons are still very important! Before you got tank and air forces siege weapons are the way to go. Lots of catapults some maceman, axeman, xbows, pikeman to protect them. Of cause a lot of them are destroyed, but who cares? they are cheap:p
