Come Back, Colonialism, All is Forgiven

They finally realised the truth. And now they want the Europeans back. The problem is, Europeans don't want them back.

Bogus.

Countries were made separating friends and lumping enemies together, at the whim of the colonizing forces. The domination from the exterior power was the glue putting that mess together. Now, they are fighting for their identities with 21 century weapons plus the unrealistic goal of taking in account the arbitrary frontiers they learn about in imported atlas. Of course everything went to hell there, it was a bomb waiting to explode.

I don't know how to solve Africa's problems, but it has to come thought legitimate institutions in each country. Getting that, the nationality and ethnicity of the rulers would be indifferent.

I fear, though, this is a road with much bloodshed and hunger ahead.

Regards :).

well its a hell hole now...so I think you have to show it wasnt in the past ;)

Alright Mali, Congo, eithiopia, carthage, and egypt all wereglorious civilizations.

Gentle colonialism would sadly probably be a good thing, at least until Africa is actually put into a position to succeed.

Ah, I see. I have to prove an unfounded, unsourced and otherwise unverified claim wrong, otherwise it's true. I forgot that's how things operate around here.

To quote my great uncle, a colonialist in Kenya, "the darkies cannot govern themselves"

What you're suggesting is akin to me coming into your home, taking everything, from your electronics to your plumbing, and then saying "well life dealt you a hard hand, best of luck with it"

There's no nation insurance.
That's all fine and dandy, but the alternative is what? The only logical alternative to the status quo is the status quo. In other words, Africans have to take care of themselves.

So, you think Europeans want them back?

So, you think Europeans want them back?

No. What I think is:

- In the majority, neither want either back;

- Just very few and rather deluded people even contemplate the possibility;

- It's false that Europeans were the only glow of light there and when they left everything eroded because Africans on their own are hopeless;

- It would not solve anything anyway;

If colonialism were great, it would not be such a common trait of colonies to revolt against their metropolis...

Regards :).

They want colonialism back since colonialism crippled them, so now they can't stand up on their own.

Le Blanc is a traitor to his homeland and his race. Sometimes I wish I could go back to mommy & daddy cause even though they treated me bad ofttimes at least I got free food & shelter but I wouldn't really want to. Pathetic. :thumbsdown:

Woah wait what? Traitor to his race?

Woah wait what? Traitor to his race?
Indeed, he shames his entire continent w/ his remarks. And does them a disservice since certain knuckleheads will dub him a spokesperson for all of Africa.

He's like a lame ass prisoner who can't handle the outside and begs the warder to go back behind bars... "where da' nice prison guards gon' take care of me, cause I cant be makin' it on my own!", worse, he begs to go back for a crime he didn't even admit in the first place.

Yes, pretty much.

IMHO, colonialism never really went away. Look at the Cold War proxies fighting each other on behalf of Washington or Moscow. Look at the western companies and IMF and World Bank and their explotive practises. Look at the crippling debt.

If you're so insistent on colonizing this place, then why don't you pack up your bags and live in Africa.
There has to be a government in place that would support such a measure first. Why would I, today, move to any one of those basketcase countries? My personal safety and right to property without threat of expropriation can't be guaranteed under the regimes in black Africa now, so it seems that there's all risk and no reward.

Yes, pretty much.
This depends entirely on how you define "crippled", because those tribal states were certainly never going to industrialize on their own.

Would anyone seriously argue that Africa would be more likely to modernize if Europeans had stayed out of the continent?

A : It's impossible to say
B : Who's to say "modernization" is the ideal pinnacle of life (Africans aren't suffering because they're not "modern" enough, they're suffering because we gave them just enough "help" for their populations to expand & for them to get that greedy gleam of civilization in their eyes but not enough to actually succeed at the game, they're certainly worse off in general now than pre-colonialism).

One thing is almost certain. If Europeans had stayed out there weren't be nearly as many people suffering needlessly as there are now.

Hey, worked for the japs.

Okay, Captain Ludd, but I don't see you pissing and moaning about your air conditioning, your computer, and your indoor plumbing.

No but he has all three of those things. Most africans have zero.

Yeah exactally. For a change, sharp stuff, lets focus on the topic @ hand and not the person.

Besides, I don't use AC.

Heh, I don't use indoor plumping either, I sh!t in your backyard & I bathe down by the river, where I frolic w/ all the sisters of the fiftychatters. As for my computer. Sh!t man, you got me! Now tell me, what does my having a computer have to do w/ Africa again?

Now tell me, what does my having a computer have to do w/ Africa again?
Do you think that computer fell out of the sky? Without cities, roads, factories, mines, tractors, trucks, steel mills, oil refineries, etc., etc., etc. you wouldn't have that computer.

What it has to do with the subject at hand is that you're lambasting civilization, but at the same time taking advantage of it.
