So you and I probably have some foods we consider comfort food; the ones we come to so we can shut our brains off and make ourselves feel better.

As strategic as Civ can get, I have no doubt you and I sometimes just wanna shut our brains off and get lost in a one-more-turn spiral.

4X but minus the moment to moment thinking. Just sit back and relax.

Here’s a thread for the Civs and setups that do the trick.

I’ll start:

Chop-Chop Vietnam
-Classical Era start or later
-Vietnam (with or without your choice of mods)
-Wet map for maximum vegetation
Optional: faster game speed to make things even more engaging and addictive.

An oft neglected strategy regarding the Conservation civic involves clearing your entire empire of natural vegetation before replacing it all with new growth trees. For most Civs, a cheesy play like this is only middlingly useful seeing as it comes rather late into the game. Vietnam is not most Civs.

Unlocking forest planting at Medieval Faires, Vietnam players are supposed to plug the holes in their land and conserve their empire’s natural features. But why do that when you can abuse Magnus to chop out dozens of tiles, for relatively no cost?

In practice this play pattern is rather braindead- chop a tree, build a builder, plant a tree, chop out another builder, plant a tree, repeat ad infinitum. I normally refrain from abusing unbalanced game mechanics, but I allow myself some exceptions in the name of easy fun.

Big Purple Number
-Pericles of Greece
-Barbarian Clans game-mode
-Less Civs
-Increased starting city-states
Optional: replace every other Civ with Canada to prevent nasty surprise wars.

The idea here is pretty obvious, isn’t it? Play Pericles as usual (clustering districts, spamming Acropoli, amassing Envoys) and spread your influence over the entire map, suzing as many city-states as possible. Enjoy the Diplo Quarter yields- they will be juicy.

Throw in Pingala, Kilwa Kisawani, and some Amenity buffs for even more Culture percentage. Might you fall behind in Science? Perhaps. But do you really care? Is that why you’re here?

To Map’s End
-Macedon
-Classical Era start
-Abundant resources (in hopes of more Iron and Horses)
-Pangaea map

I wonder what you might be doing playing as Alexander the Great…

Paint the Mediterranean (Tyrian) Purple
-Phoenicia
-Stabdard or Large Archipelago map
-Less Civs
-Ancient Era start (crucial)
Optional: Barb Clans game mode for more city-states and some targets to ram through with your Biremes.

Phoenicia is all about settling as many cities as possible. This map gives you all the room in the world (pun intended) to do so.

Why is the Ancient Era start so essential? How else will you take advantage of a Free Inquiry Golden Age’s extra Science?

I could go on, but I think these are my favorites.

Any Civ will do for this.
Obviously I like Germany for the extra district,
England on archipeg maps is also good.
(used to be great, but the nerfed the bonus unit thing)

Deity.
Huge map.
speed: meh, doesn't matter.
Victory: Domination ONLY

Fire up Firetuner.
Give yourself All Techs and All Civics.
close out firetuner.

Enjoy.

This is a plain old fashion smash'n'grab.

(tip, yer gonna do a LOT of chopping) :D

Japan (surprising, right?)
TSL Earth Map (actually the Giant Earth Map from the Ynamp mod)
Marathon
Ancient Era

In the beginning, you settle some cities on the island where you are completely alone… clearing barb camps and grow. Then, around medieval era, you send ships and troops to Korea, taking your first steps onto Asia. From there on, you can decide what you‘ll do… you have plenty of options.

Also, i must admit i was never playing someone else than Japan as Hojo Tokimune or Greece as Pericles 😅
But playing Japan or Greece was always maximum fun.

Just pick our favourite Viking Hardrada, an islands map and go on a pillaging rampage with your longboats right out of the ancient era!
