Not everyone wants to use a computer game to learn life lessons. Sometimes they just want to have idle fun, beat up on the AI, play in a sandbox, etc.

I play about half on Emperor and Half on Immortal. Sometimes I play Immortal and win easily, sometimes I get frustrated and lose. I like to vary up my strategies a lot rather than playing optimally, and I especially like taking all the good city spots. The extra happiness on Emperor helps with that 
I've won 2-3 games on Deity as well, but I'm not good enough/consistent enough to take on that challenge all the time.
I think my most fun games are on Immortal because of the balance of challenge and freedom to play a little loosely, and even snag a few wonders!

Deity really is difficult but it could be cleared.. ive beaten deity before and it was surprisingly easy. I was so ahead in technology that the ai couldnt keep up.
