8 years and a couple of months isn't nearly long enough.

There are still people left to disagree with!

I don't mean to be contrary , and I too will be sad to see awesome posters gone , but what's with the whole "retiring" from the site and accompanying fanfare ?

I mean it's really just a matter of logging on from time to time and posting if you've got something to say , and not if you don't .

Well, yes. Naturally. Why else would they log on, Eran?

I still don't get the whole "gone" thing ? They don't want to continue the rigorous 6.00am training sessions involving sand hill climbs and gym that posting requires and need to rest their aging bodies ? They are disposing of their computers or moving to an isolated Amazonian community ?

They aren't going to come to the site and read other people's posts, or make any of their own. What's hard to understand about that?

Ok I get the mechanic and I suspect you realise that . It's the associated melodrama of "retirement" that I feel is overstated . It's not like there is a significant level of investment required to visit that one is no longer prepared to go through .

Maybe it's just me, be some people tend to get really invested in this site. So much so, that they need a break from it on occasion.

That's what VR's doing, dunno about Ralph.

That's disappointing from one of my favourite posters . I have made it clear that I will be saddened by the absence of posters who garner a lot more respect than me around here due both to their longevity and quality of contribution , and rightly so .
This , on the other hand goes a long way to answering my question . I may have underestimated how much this place means to people , thus simply logging off and taking a break may not be as easy as I thought .

The little smillie at the top is unintended and I've no idea how to remove it , but since it's not a  I'll just roll with it

    Edit...._random_ rockin' as usual

Beneath the posting section in the "Go Advanced" thing is a section labeled "Post Icons" just click "No Icon" if you want it removed.

Hey I'm not saying you aren't part of the team and I love your contributions. I'm just saying that sometimes it takes a few more years before another layer of this place really sinks in. It took me about 5 years after I joined before I really felt like this was a truly personal meaningful real life community for me. 2 years in CFC was like a mini life away from life, but after enough time it just becomes a full up part of life.

My point was that give it time and the level of formality of the exits will make more personal sense. I didn't mean to be snide.

Yeah I agree mate . I realise I kinda missed the point and I think it's admirable you were sticking up for your greatly missed contributors
