Hardware/drivers are also a possibility too for crashes. Just saying. :)

JosEPh_II,

have you posted your dxdiag results file anywhere recently? if not, could you do that, if you have no idea what I am speaking about, could you post the windows version you are using?

Joseph... I tried running it on mine and didn't have any trouble as well. Neanders are indeed quite prolific. Could be a lot of the type of resources they spawn on. Could also be something else we need to look further into.

But as for the crash issue... I wonder if its possible if you have an insidious bad download that isn't so corrupted it makes it obvious. Others will be able to use debugging tools... I need to re-familiarize myself there before I can offer more assistance.

When I grant independence to any of my oversea colonies, my civ declares war to everyone, including new created civ for that colony (Attila in this case of log below) and all my vassals who becomes free :dubious:. Also my ex-vassals declare war to other ex-vassals and some other civs..

Savegame attached for reproducing.

Note on war with Attila (on screenshot) who is pleased to me :D
Also look at how new civ revolts from being a vassal and declares war to me twice in a row (in log above).

I guess something is wrong.

Edit: just checked that custom civs don't matter

Relative square sizes of colony and mainland also seem not matter (in case of 50% land square trigger of vassal liberation) for this bug to occur.

PS: I actually didn't want to give away cities, just did it for test :)

I even reduced my Graphics settings to 1360 X 1024 from my normal 1680 x 1200. I also tried Reducing the Graphics to Medium and Anti-Aliasing from 2 to 4. Does not matter. Just makes the game look a bit blurry.

Maybe it was just a mistype, but increasing AA will use MORE resources. Reduce it to 0.

Edit3: I thought you guys "Fixed" the neander Spawn??? All my new games are on Marathon and look at the screen shot! It's Broken again! And it's worse the farther I pan out. I could spit nails right now. I don't know if I can take this much longer.

I adjusted it while testing on Marathon with Raging Barbarians, Wet climate (meaning forest everywhere) and the spawn rate was good. At that time, we didn't have a wider area spawn modifier which looks at the entire continent, so might have to work with that in this version. As is, the spawn rate uses a very low density (48 out of 49) tiles and a raised setting on average number of turns per spawn, meaning a slower spawn.

But those numbers can always be adjusted. That's why it is good to get feedback from multiple people.

That being said, my settings were on the SVN for awhile, and I haven't heard any other mention of them. :crazyeye:

Edit: Pushed revision to SVN with new Area variable so should keep density down. I will probably need to continue adjusting this until we find a good middle-ground.

Wonders and buildings don't appear to be going fully obsolete. In the attached images the Animal Standard, Venetian Arsinal and others should all be obsolete but they are still giving XP to units.

On getting the tech Submarine Warfare the river port became available again. I would say that sub warfare obsoletes something that replaces river port. Pehaps River Port should obsolete earlier?

Arg. Yeah the Steamboat Port goes obsolete at submarine warfare. I will have to do something about that. Thanks for reporting. Later Eras still have a lot of bugs since they are not played as much.

ori,
It's a win XP Pro x64 OS. I have a Radeon HD4650 vid card with 512MB of ddr2 ram. System ram is 8GB of G-Skill 1066mhz DDR 2, and a Gigabyte Mobo EP-45-UD3R sata dual bios. CPU is E7400 Wolfdale IBM Dual Core 2.8Mhz.

I'm trying to Update my vid driver this morning but have been having problems. Think I have it updated to the 7/2011 8.81 version. D/l'ing the newest now. Last attempt download failed (stupid Satellite dsl).

@SO and everyone else,
I KNEW you all would be able to play the save on thru. :p But it was requested and I supplied.

I was just hoping someone would catch something. It's been this way for sometime, all thru v17 and now v18.

Attached is my Log file. May not help but here it is.

I don't remember how to get the direct X dialog file.

These intermittent issues are almost always graphical, either bad assets (though those tend to be more reproducible) or assets that you graphics environtmemt (driver/hardware/...) doesn't get along with for some reason.

I'd start by disabling the new tile set (not that that is a solution since that's now a major part of the new gameplay, but as a diagnostic approach) if someone knows how that can be done. A month or so ago theer wa talk of providing alternate graphics for all the new tiles, and IMO this may be a case where a less varied/detailed set is needed - even going so far as to map all the new tile types onto the original set and accepting you have to look at the hover text to differntiate among similar types).

Playing old scenario map for example, where only default RoM/civ tiles present.

Its pretty easy:

Just click on the Start button and in XP (I believe) you will see a "run" with Win 7 you just type in "dxdiag." Without the quotations of course.

If you want to see what your configuration is, you just type in "msconfig."

I think it may be under control now. I finally got the latest driver for my vid card to install and have continued the V18 game that had the 8CTDs. Plus I went back and reloaded the v17 game that had stalled out at 860AD and was able to continue it.

I had 1 Non repeatable CTD in the continued v18 game, but that's been it, since the driver update. And I think that was caused by having 9 autosaves in the auto folder.

I feel kinda  embarrassed for getting so grouchy. :cringe: I apologize to you all. Koshling kept saying graphics and I just wasn't making a connection to my Vid card driver's age.

I have that in hand, just need to make a document somewhere telling people how to use it.

Just started my first v18 game and right off my Clubman met a cobra. Spent about 7 turns with the cobra attacking him and withdrawing and both units being at full strength when it became my turn again. Seemed like I was getting an exploit, plus my clubman received 2 full experience points for every attack. By turn 75, my clubman had met a few more cobras and now has 39+ exp. points. In v17 I was used to each encounter with an animal only giving very small fractions of exp. points.....

Seems my earlier random crashes were caused by same thing as Joseph has, I updated video driver and now the game is far more stable.

I believe there is a setting called Dynamic XP that determines whether you get the flat amt or partial based on various factors. Maybe you have that off now?

Hi Thunderbrd,
