Community Patch - How To Install

Nope, This is all there is
Which version of VP are you playing? The newest beta or the last stable version from July 2019? If the July version, then I think the file should not be there yet, correct @Recursive Warrior?

Well I downloaded the most recent official one (not a beta I think). The installation file says 7-29-1

That's it. Try the newest beta, it is very stable and balanced - the coastal cities are a bit too strong, but nothing game-breaking. It has the file + settings added by @Recursive Warrior.

I added it sometime after July for sure. :)

Very stable and balanced, except the inquisitor change that I dislike very much XD

I'm still playing 3-1b with self-modified 4-17 changes for that reason.

How do I fix the vassal overview button showing up twice? Only one of them is functional.

Don't know how to fix it, but this shouldn't be happening. I'd be worried that there will be more problems than just a dummy extra button.

A few thoughts:
1) Don't you happen to be subscribed to the standalone Civ4 diplomacy mod at Steam Workshop (even of deactivated)
2) Could it be a mod conflict? Running any other mods?
3) Have you checked the logs? Does Lua produce anything when you click the dummy button?
4) Do you notice any other oddities?

1) I dont
2) Maybe. Yes
3) How do I do that?
4) I'm kinda going through a nightmare right now cause I tried applying the latest beta of EUI and VOX and basically the flimsy code holding all my mods together apparently broke and I'm checking one by one to see what doesnt work. The first thing I ruled out was the latest EUI. Even with nothing but it and VOX the top overview buttons are gone. So I just went back to v1.28 and everything seemed fine except this one additional button. (It does work if playing without mods tho)

btw can you tell me if civ has some sort of hardcoded limit to how many mods you can use at the same time? i've hit a point where if I add any single mod the game starts crashing when I'm in-game and decide to load a save or go back to the main menu or restart the game (if on turn 0).

edit: now the icon has changed for some reason

I don't know about a hard-coded limit to mods, but Civ5 is 32-bit program so you may run into problems especially with memory-heavy mods (like those adding tons of new units) + on huge maps. I personally run VP with 30-40 other mods on huge Tectonic map (which is huger than normal huge) and every works fine.

If I were you, I'd:
1) Delete EUI (the UI_bc1 folder from your steamapps/Civ5/DLCs/) and VP (Documents/My Games/Civ5/MODs/)
2) Move all other mods to a backup folder
3) OPTIONAL, but recommend: if you want to be 100% safe, I'd also unsubscribe from Steam Workshop for all these mods, you can favorite them, so that you don't lose track of them, but they won't automatically re-download (sometimes even deactivated mods present in your MODs folder can cause a conflict - if they share a mod ID with another mod)
4) Delete cache and ModUserData folders (same level as MODs folder)
5) Install the newest beta of VP with EUI from the autoinstaller (don't install the newest stand-alone EUI for now).
6) If everything works fine, you can try moving mods (in groups, not all of them at once) from your backup folder back to your MODs folder to determine, which mod is causing troubles.

#6 will be a tedious task. You can check the stickied mods compatibility thread if they are listed as compatible.

Try googling "enable logging in Vox Populi" or something like this. There is an explanatory thread somewhere here.

But maybe you don't need the logging enabled. The information from the Lua log probably would not tell you much anyway. If you try it, don't forget you have to click the dummy button to log something.

Thanks for the help. Indeed its a tedious task cause thats what I've been doing all day. I got to 76 mods before adding any more makes the game act up again. They're mostly small changes tho, like tile yields and unit promotions. A good portion are the "Global" ones from WHoward's site. Also I need to completely rewrite the game install folder and its "My games" folder every time I add a mod that starts crashing it, cause once I do even if I remove it afterwards if keeps crashing, so I have to wipe the slate clean to the point where it didnt.

Several of the Pick 'N' Mix mods are already incorporated into VP. Make sure you don't have any duplicates.

Also make sure you aren't using other mods which modify the DLL.

Ok I'm looking through them and this one caught my attention, isnt the "see also" completely different from what the description says?
unknown.png

Also the CustomModOptions file says they wont be enabled just by changing the values there, what else I have to do?
btw I found at least three different sections for enabling automaton workers. Do I have to change all of them for it to be enabled?

(unrelated: if I choose small map but manually add, say, 10 civs, does the map actually get scaled up to standard or huge to accommodate for them or does the game scramble to fit them in the small map?)

Having a slight error with the ranged attacks of units, unsure if its this mod or if its the EUI any help would be appreacitated. Basically its showing an incorrect field of view, I can still fire outside of the red marked lines but its certainly frustrating not being able to see where he can fire. I started a new game and reinstalled everything and cleared the cache to see if that would help.

Mods im currently using are: CIV-Linked great generals, CIV names by policy, Ethnic Units, Faster plot expansion, Global Warming, Historical religions, Info addict, Perfect world, Quick turns, R.E.D, really advanced setup, reforestation, Renewable energy, Sukritact's Civ VI city style names, Terrain - poor tiles tweak and Terrain - terrace farm extension.

All of which were on the mod compatibility checklist, also newest version of the software, VP and EUI.

Getting a couple of other minor bugs like Caravan being called Rifleman, and Pathfinder being called Gatling Gun.

Finally occasionally leaders will contact me and there is no text as to what they are saying.

Assuming there is a conflict somewhere or perhaps something I'm missing, I deleted the LUA files as was specified or is it perhaps that these should not be deleted?

@stephen p walker , this is either a mod conflict or - more likely - a messed install. I suspect there will be more serious problems than renamed units and wrong ranged attack visual guides.

1) The mods you mention are listed as compatible with VP, but they could be incompatible with each other or incompatible with VP when combined or they stopped being compatible and nobody reported it yet. The best would probably be trying a game without the extra mods (you can accelerate the game for the test with IGE mod if needed). But ...

2) You mention that you deleted some files. Why don't you use the autoinstaller? It will do everything for you and you don't need to delete anything. (If your Steam is installed in a non-standard location and you want to use EUI, you might need to move EUI to the correct location - see a few posts before yours for more details if your UI is messed).

Ah ok that took some doing, thanks for the quick reply vyyt and for your previous instructions too. The real issue was as you said a non-standard location. So whilst vox was installing fine the EUI was installing in the standard location, I had manually added it to my specific location but hadn't realised it was installed as a duplicate there too. Guessing having two versions of it was messing with the smooth running. Works fine now.

Hey folks I'm totally new to Civ5.. I used the automatic installer, which seemed to work, but I don't have any files in this directory, which is supposed to have xml files in it apparently:

D:\Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\Text

Do I need to do something manual? I know it is part of the UI enhancement. Thanks for any input.

Hi, welcome to the herd :-)

No, Vox Populi is installed to D:\Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\MODS\
(look for its components marked like (1) .., (2), ... etc.)

Vox Populi does not touch the folder you mention, it is empty on my end too.

If you chose the variant with EUI (the popular UI mod) during installation, then the "ui_bc1" folder was installed to:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Sid Meier's Civilization V\Assets\DLC\

Is your UI messed up? If yes, then it's because your Steam is installed to a non-standard location (= different from the above on drive C), you may need to manually move the ui_bc1 folder from the above location (= standard/default on drive C which the autoinstaller created on drive C) to your Steam location. This applies only to EUI, VP should be always installed in the correct location. If your UI seems ok, then you can forget this.

Hah... thanks for the post! Nope the ui_bc1 folder is in the correct location in DLC/ folder.. I was just looking at other EUI install directions, and they definitely have you putting some xml files in Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\Text . Has to do with game text that isn't covered by the base game, but that EUI uses. Not sure how the installer works, but it's definitely not "replicating" a manual install.

No issues so far though, but I'm not sure you'd actually notice if the files aren't installed (you'd just be missing some stuff). Oh well, if you don't have the files and yours works fine, I guess I'll steam ahead! Thanks again.

Heya folks. I've been having a problem with Vox in that it doesn't display a tech tree that I can scroll, and has options missing from the tech net. In addition, the era bars are in the middle of the tree, not up the top like good little eras (pics because it did happen: https://imgur.com/a/WBiKKdU) I've attached the logs (I think... txts didn't want to upload) and have tried fresh Civ V installs, with and without EUI, the CBP overhaul only and made sure there are no weird threads leading something astray. Not sure what I'm missing. Does anyone have an idea?
