I thought I'd try starting a thread where people can post/discuss creative, out-of-the box gameplay they've done in BNW, or simply to talk about doing something crazy and/or ingenious. The thing I like most about the Forums is seeing how others do clever things, and hopeful we could gather a fun mixture of examples. Things that worked, things that almost worked, etc.

I thought I'd start and see if I can manage posting a story of a city I managed to shoehorn in between 2 CS and in front of Spain. I am currently playing a Diety game with Greece, and found myself in an interesting predicament. I needed a 4th city spot after doing a 3-city start, finishing Tradition and and getting to Education around T110.

I had found the juicy Lake Victoria but wedged deep between two City States and I needed a Lux. Also, although it'd be creating another boarder with Isabella, it's a defensible position and is just a super tasty location... plus, I didn't have a coastal capital and needed a spot within caravan range of Athens.

I beat up poor Zurich and made sure to get a Great General, which is one reason I waited so long to plant. I needed to be sure I could reach deep into Valetta and snatch its Cotton and Horses, while also being able to purchase some Bananas away from Spain's 3rd Ring. As the saying goes, it is always nice when a plan comes together... :)

Here is the set-up:

And here is 20 turns later (with a pissed off Isabella :).

But Argos lived on, and eventually, it was revealed to be a cornucopia of Strategic Resources (much needed Coal and Aluminum), and did in fact proved capable of withstanding two Isabella Assaults.

GG bombing a city state should be done more often, seeing as they often have coal/aluminium as well as the luxury.

yeah about that, I almost never do that due to the sheer nature of my playstyle (turtle builder, innit) which is why I don't really get GGs much, but what are the diplomatic effects of GG bombing a CS

It makes your base level of Influence negative. Just like when you bully them too much. -20, I think. It's not permanent, though. Later in the game if you can get it positive (Trade Route or some other quest) You can Pledge to Protect them and start from normal +5 again. In this game, valetta eventually became friendly.
