So, any speculation about what future Community Updates might bring?

Fixing Bugs like Pantheon Exploit, and Rebalancing Religious Beliefs, always seemed like safe bets to me. I had hoped Envoys would get rebalanced, but didn't expect they would, so that was a pleasant surprise for the July Update. Coastal Cities, Harbours, and Production generally got rebalanced last year, so can't see those getting buffed again (which is fine by me).

I'm guessing rebalancing units is likely? Particularly if there's a Game Mode focused on Units (which seems likely).

Maybe Buildings and some Policy Cards, e.g. Rationalism type cards, might get rebalanced? I'm particularly interested to see if FXS might bring back percentage modifiers like Work Ethic had before the last Religion Update (which was +1% Production per Pop, max 15%). There are very few percentage modifiers in the game generally - might be because FXS has decided not to have them, but it might also be because they're saving that particular tool for the right problem. Commercial Hub Buildings are also very, very bland. Maybe FXS might shoehorn some tweaks into those.

I really don't think Specialists will get revisited. FXS buffed them last year. They just don't seem to be something FXS are all that excited about. Can't say I particularly care either way.

Does anyone expect any more Civ balancing, beyond the NFP Civs? I doubt it - all the existing Civs seem pretty well balanced to me at the moment.

I also doubt we'll get any new units or Persona Packs via Community Updates - there's no reference to that sort of stuff in marketing material to date - although happy to be proven wrong (and I guess there were free units in Red Death, so like maybe!?!).

I also think Firaxis might revisit the first two game modes in the Community Updates. I wouldn't say it's a definite, but they do keep asking questions on Twitter about the game modes which suggest they might rebalance them slightly, but I'd also expect they'd be too busy to really revist these in any serious way this year.

    Thoughts?

(And, on a separate note, when do we think we'll get an update on the August Community Update? Is this week a possibility?)

I'm hoping for a fix to the no-city challenge where people just glide to an easy diplo victory without really playing as Maori.

I hope for more bug-fixes in first place - especially strategic ressource trading still has some annoying issues and exploits. Some balancing is needed, too (and they even said that they are aware of Gran Columbia being widely perceived as too strong and consider a nerf here).

Regarding release date...pure speculation...but if they stick to Thursday, next week seems more likely to me than the following (which would be the last Thursday in August and would shrink the time towards the September release, which is content heavy with two civs...so I assume a bigger pause between August and September release would have some logic for me). But even if that should be true, I would not count on getting any infos this week - rather early next week.

FIXING THE DAMNED SWITCH VERSION! FRAXIS HAS BEEN WAY TOO LAZY AND INCOMPETENT WITH IT. THEY MIGHT AS WELL AS AXE IT AND REFUND IT TO ALL CONSOLE PLAYERS!

Deflate gold, make AI offer less for Diplo Favor, buff anti-cav, preferably introduce Longswordmen and Riflemen. Buff Religious Community. Give cultists religious strength and make the AI actually use them. Nerf Gran Colombia and Russia (unlock the GWAM points from Lavra when you build Theatre Square in a city and remove the extra Great Prophet points).

Supposedly we're getting a free game mode in this month's update (per Anton's Twitter teasing).

I really don't have high hopes for getting any new units via Community Updates or DLC. If we were, I really think they would have said that in the marketing material. Really hope I'm wrong about that.

Did he say a Game Mode in this update? I didn't think it was that explicit.

There was previously a reference to a Game Mode in a CU at some point. Very mysterious. I really couldn't guess what Game Mode type mechanics they'd just give away for free. It would need to be some sweet spot between "stuff people would actually play with", "something that gets peoples' attention" and "not something we wouldn't rather charge $$$ for as part of a DLC".

I'd be just a little surprised if Zombies don't make it into the game via a Community Update, e.g. as part of the Apocalypse Game Mode. It just seems like such an easy thing to do given they already have the art assets and the basic mechanics.

Or maybe they'd save that for a proper Game Mode / DLC they could charge for. Wouldn't rule that out. Don't mind either way, really.

I mean, I'm not really itching to play all this genre stuff. But if I decide to, then I'd rather go all in with Comets, Vampires and Zombies.

I kind of feel alone on this island, but I hope Colombia is not nerfed. I think they're fine where they are at. Pretty powerful, but not as OP as others see them. I guess your mileage may vary, but in my 3 games with them, I've found them strong, but not an instant win civ by any means. I've had easier domination victories with other civs, even.

If they do nerf, I guess they could remove CG/GG stacking. Besides, I hate micromanaging, so it wouldn't be that big of a loss. I really hope they don't touch the CUA. It's fine as it is. It's what makes Colombia, Colombia. I like having faster scouts, settlers, workers, melee and archers. And don't touch the promotion bonus -- that's just a nice quality of life thing to have.

No, if any civ needs a rework it's the Maya. They need to address their perimeter malus and freshwater malus. It's a great civ otherwise, but it feels like I'm playing with an anchor around my leg.

From a design standpoint GC's +1 movement is so elegant I hope they don't tinker too much there and instead tone down some of their ancillary benefits. That +1 movement is enough that the rest of the civ could be blank and it would still be strong. I agree that the CG are hopefully where a nerf bat should fall...

But yeah, more civ balancing is probably my #1 wish for this patch.

I'm hoping for tweaks to Apocalypse mode in order to make it a little more survivable via technology. I want a way (albeit one difficult to achieve) to prevent so many cities from being wiped out by asteroids.

We need bug fixes. I'm disappointed with the increasingly fragile stability of the game with each of these updates.

Reports of crashes to desktop are really common. Work Ethic is broken. The Letters of Marquee Dark Age policy has I think literally never worked properly - the malus never applies.

forget about it. It is clear Devs don't care about such a minor thing as bug fixes. I think bug fixes can happen when 21st century comes to an end.

    This is what he mentioned:

"The feature I teased earlier is in the next free Game Update...so in the month after Ethiopia. And though I did program the game design parts myself, I should also point out that I had the help of our great UI programmers to make it happen!"

Maybe not a 'mode' per say, but seems a pretty significant chunk of content whatever it is.

Well, Carl did confirm that they're working on a fix for the Work Ethic bug. He didn't say when we'd get it, though.

The universal and permanent +1 movement is incredibly strong in its own right, as has been pointed out elsewhere (compare to, say, Mongolia for laughs). Giving the +1 movement bonus AND free Great Generals every era to the same civ is just downright stupid from a balance point of view. So yeah, nerf bat must fall.

It should definitely be restricted to their own continent. It doesn't make sense for Simon Bolivar going zoom zoom global conquest.

I mean, Mongolia gets an easy +9 combat strength for cavalry units by just first sending a trade route, increasing to +15/21 if you can get printing first and/or a spy to create a listening post. Movement alone isn't going to win you battles unless your units can at least deal equal damage to your opponents. IMO, the only nerf Gran Colombia needs is either removing the ability to stack Commandante Generals with Great Generals or maybe even removing their ability to recruit regular Great Generals at all.

But I mean the movement bonus for EVERYTHING is kind of really good. The logistics card just does in your territory and it's already pretty good. Maybe exclude civilian units of you want to nerf it a bit.

I'd vote for the CG and GG stacking as the only nerf. Maybe limit the movement to only Gran Colombia's home continent, but Civ's continent logic so wonky. I like that it applies to civilian units as well, in that it's one of the few things Bolivar has for a non-dom victory.
