Compatability issues w/ Vanilla Civ4 demo

Okay, I'm a relative newb here who only owned a vanilla copy of Civ3 and is trying to get into the Civilization mold more thoroughly, so I decided to d/l the Civ4 demo to see if I wanted to purchase is and its subsequent expansions. I finally get it downloaded, but it apparently has "known compatability issues" with my OS; Vista.

I tried running the demo in compatability mode and everything, but it's belligerent. Could someone please point me in the right direction.

Any help would be appreciated; thanks in advance.

civ4 was not designed for Vista - and only the latest (1.74) patch resolves most of the issues with it - so I fear that the Demo which was never patched might resist all attempts of running on Vista
Most people however have no problems with the actual game patched to 1.74 - though some problems especially with the 64bit version of Vista remain

Im not patched yet and im running CIV4 the game of the year edition on 64bit vista with no issues.
