First off, this mod looks great. My congrats to the designers

Second, how on earth do I play this game? Its certainly not like BTS. I had no idea about the civs or the leaders and just choose Tebryn Arbandi because his portrait looks cool. Started a Noble Epic game. I'm looking at research and it seems most of the early techs require me to wait around for like 25 turns or more.. my 1 worker can't build anything and I'm surrounded by forests which can't be chopped down for awhile. I can't build mines for the time being. I have 1 tile of wheat but have to wait for agriculture to be researched... Do I just pump out warriors and scouts for awhile and look around the surrounding lands or is there some kind of strategy I should be adopting?

I feel pretty limited in what I can do early off in the game

welcome to the club of FFF2 addicts! :king:

explore, goody huts "work" as in BTS. But better avoid other dungeons in early phase. Beware of animals, especially bears and griffins. But later promotions from battles help to beat bears and griffins too. In FFF2 promos are more important than in BTS.

Yep, FfH has a pretty steep learning curve, so do take your time experimenting it out.

For an early reference, do take a look at Xien's manual, which should be pretty updated save for the recent changes.

Then of course if you had additional doubts you could take a look at the 'pedia as well for some info.

civs, leaders and religions matter a great deal more in FFH than they do in BTS. Almost every leader plays differently, with alternative tech goals, play styles, prefered victories etc. For beginners, the bannor and the grigori are usually recommended, since they play pretty much like in normal bts.

Once you've got a general feel for the game, you can start experimenting with different civs, like the Ljos, the hippus or the lanun. Look at their UU's and UB's, as well as racial traits, to see where their strengths lie.

good luck, and have fun :)

Needing specific strategies, very unusual: Dwarves (Luichirp and Khazad), Balseraphs (tho this is the favorite of many, but not me), Calabim, Orcs, and the Illians.

The Elohim have a few twists, but are also relatvely simple, and the elves (Svart=evil, Ljosalfar=good or neutral) have unique features but are not too complex (you need to find a way to do sieges without artillery, which generally means using fire or air spells or summoned suicide attackers).

Particularly difficult to play in the past were the Kuriotates and Lanun, but the Lanun, I read, are a little easier now.

For religions, you may want to go with Runes of Kilmorph (Fellowship of Leaves if you play elves) because it has the fewest wrinkles and gives you extra gold, which makes economic management easier, and gives you a wonder that gives you iron, which makes resource grabbing easier.

Finally, you'll decide whether you prefer to be good or evil (or neutral). I prefer good but many prefer evil. With the Sheaim and Teryn you have chosen an evil civ that should work hard to raise the armageddon counter and build Gates and be Ashen Veil (AV). And do read up on the Mercurian world spell.

For any civ and religion, locate their hero on the tech tree.

And enjoy!

And you may want to play a few quick games on small maps.

I'd play through a couple of the first tier scenarios, Gift of Kylorin plays like an adventure game, but gives a nice but limited introduction to the spell system, The Grand Menagerie gives a good intro to animals, Barbarian Assault gives you a good idea of what a BAD starting position is, Fall of Cuantine helps a little with learning about heroes, Return of Winter gives a look into Doviello strategy and somwhat explains what the heck to do with the Illians, and the Splintered Court gives you a look into working with elves.

I'm not seeing these scenario's anywhere. I go to scenarios, from FFH2 shortcut, and I just get "earth" "africa"..all the normal civ4 scenarios. What am i missing?

Get the latest patch cdogg, "h" at this moment. You'll find it in the bug thread.
