Having problems in conquering cities in a single tile island, especially when your on the brink of wiping out that civ?

Well one way is creating marines, which can attack cities while on board a ship. Though you may have to wait since marines is not readily accesible in the early part of the game.

But, if you're in real hurry, you can just exchange any city you have conquered that is located in any continent. Make sure that you get out any garrizoned units in that city and be ready by putting more units near your target city for exchange.

Once a deal is made, you now own the tiny little city in the islands and the AI now owns your city.

You can now recapture your city and completely wipe out your opponent.

uhhh, I have NEVER been able to get a rival to trade me one of its cities, even after having put everything I own on the trading block. I guess that just goes against the grain of everything they hold sacred.....

At some patch level (1.16 or earlier I think) the AI will never trade for cities. You can give them as gifts, or give/demand them in peace negotiations only.

Usually, you need to pound on that civ for a couple of turns, until he's left with a single city on a cute little island, now exchange one of his city you previously acquired.

Try offering his capital for the island city, and I bet he'll be drooling to get it back. Never mind if the city is loaded with wonders and all. You'll get it back anyway.

The main objective of course is to annihilate the civ completely from history to stop possible flips on annexed cities. I had an experience where I let a civ's last city survive and having three cities revolting the next turn. Really pissed me off.

Your strategy won't work if the computer only has one city left. The game does not allows for a player to trade their capital. The capital doesn't even show up on their city list in negotiations.

This may be different for earlier, pre-patch versions of the game; it has been a while since I installed the patch.

Yes. I agree with you, that the civ will not trade his capital especially when his left with just one city.

What I really mean in my last post, is that try to trade if his down with at least one city (apart from his capital), then trade his capital (his original capital city that you conquered) with the last city, which you can find in the trade window.

The ai civ will definitely trade since his original capital is a good bargain. Then recapture the city and his capital.

It's also worth mentioning that you have to leave his capital alone while he still has cities lying on one island tile. Try trading first until all his cities ar now in lands where you can attack via ground. Otherwise, once you conquer his capital, it will transfer to the island city, then you have no choice but to wait for the marines.

Thanks for replying. Good analysis.
