The year is AD1700. All along the Atlantic coast of the New World, Europeans are settling in increasing numbers, establishing strong and flourishing towns, and beginning to move inland. The Indians of America - at least, those groups that survived the first two centuries of European invasions and European diseases - are establishing their own states and adapting themselves to the new reality of European influence and encroachment. Rival European and Indian states frequently clash...

What is this?

This is the sign-up thread for a small experimental IOT game set in 18th century Colonial America. I need players to help me test some features and concepts.

What's the experiment?

Mainly, I'm testing a new* combat system for possible use in future IOTs.

What's with the asterisk?

Well, the idea is that battles will be conducted on a separate mini-map of the relevant battlefield. It's not a new idea; as far as IOTs are concerned, it was suggested as far back as the days of the original IOTIV. It was considered for IOTV but rejected for being too damn complicated.

Does this mean that Iron and Blood is dead?

What? No! Not yet, anyway. Actually, if I think this idea can work, I might put it to a vote with the IB2 crowd.

Uh, how does this game actually work?

I'm not sure yet. I'm still ironing out the rules, and I'll be tweaking it as I go along, and in the end it'd probably crash and burn. I did say that this is an experimental game.

So why should I join this game?

Ummm... charity?

That's stupid

I know.

I'm not joining a game when I don't know the rules

Ha! Like you actually read them anyway.

I so do!

Whatever. Look, if you want to join

I'm not joining!

... well, I'm explaining things for the benefit of those who actually want to join

Too bad there won't be any

... okay, for any hypothetical players out there, if you want to join, decide whether you want to be Europeans or Indians, then pick a starting province from the map below (Europeans can only start in coastal provinces), a name for your tribe/country/colony/pirate den, a brief background, maybe a flag. The year is 1700, and while this is an alternate history game, please don't be too ridiculous. Like, uh, communist ponies from Tibet settling in California... don't do that.

Spoiler Map :

(to clarify, Cuba, Hispaniola and Jamaica are separate provinces; the rest of the Caribbean is one province, and Newfoundland is attached to the Canadian Maritimes)

And, uh, that's it from me, I guess. Post away.

History: Inspired by tales of "America", Prussia as a Duchy became interested in the west, seeing the might of the Poles unbreakable. It landed here, in Guyana, and quickly started up some settlements. However, now sentiment in Prussia is increasing and independence is looking near, It is not known how the colony will proceed.
(the issue was that the Kingdom doesn't exist for another year.)
Also, how does expansion etc. work?
EDIT: I forgot the claim! *facepalm* Guyana province please.

Banovina Nove Bosne - "Ban of New Bosnia"

asdasdasee.jpg

Province: Hispaniola (now called Nediminsula - Nedims Island in Latin.)
Ruler: Colonial Ban Nedim I
Type: European
History
Bosnia faced the onslaught of the Ottomans from the 1400's but it managed to survive thanks to its great leaders and rugged terrain. Our Great King Tvrtko III by the 1600's had set up a massive fortification system that no army dared to breach. With its own borders secured, Bosnia became a peaceful land living off the salt and ore trade. When the King heard that cheap exports of the same materials are coming from the Americas he ordered a fleet from the Bosnian held port of Split to set out for the new world and spread Bogomilstvo and Bosnian people. The Ship landed on the island on the 11th of July 1690 and Nedim called it an omen because it was one day from his birthday, named it after himself. He then constructed the first city (modern day Port-o-Prince) called Brijesnica.

The Celtic Sea Dragons of the Emerald Wave

Celtic Pirates.png

Type: Celtic Pirates

The Boss: Madog Rowlands of the Blighted Fangs

Location of the Pirate Den: Isle of Newfound Lands.

History: The Rowlands were on the side of Cronwell durning the English Civil War. They hailed the victory in hope of ending the monarchy. The horrors committed against the Irish by Cronwell though shocked the family. With the return to the royals in power the family was furthur disillustioned. They migrated to America as a hope of salvation. Paul Rowlands though plotted revenge. He felt strong hatred against the forces of the "Old World." He forged with other Celtic people a simple smuggling gang but turned to pirating in determination to furthur undermine authority. Now taking his father's place a aged Madog leads with iron reins. His heir is his eldest son Darius but he secretly favours his second eldest son Illiam to lead. Who out of the two will lead? Would the other two sons, John and David, have chance in this? Or will the lone daughter of Madog, Iris, become a feminist influence as a pirate leader if she could claim? Or would one not of the family take power? Time will tell.
