Conquests incorporates PTW?

Yeah I downloaded the extra stuff from civ3.com but im not sure how its used. There is a medieval Japan unit set but how does this work, if it only works in the scenario doesnt that make the shogun scenario pretty rubbish without the download, or can you use it in the main game, I dont really see how they could be though but this would be the best situation. I'm guessing that they are only available in the editor but for the majority of players who dont use the editor are'nt they pointless. As a final point do they have a simple installation process or do you have to do all the messing around you do when you download new units from this site.

Catfish: If you don't use the Editor, then yes, the additional units *are* pointless. ;) Which is part of why they weren't included in C3:Conquests.

And yes, you have to go through "all the messing around you do when you download new units from this site" to install them. ;)

Hate to sound negative but basicly Firaxis screwed all people with the PtW expansion because PtW is included with Conquests?
Smart sales trick....loyal customers pay twice.....

I didnt have the internet when PTW came out so i didnt bother but I have to say I agree with you zzzz

loyal customers pay twice.....

no. Loyal customers buy PTW. Then buy conquests, whereas people who didn't buy PTW get conquests and all the PTW content for free.

You're not paying for the PTW content in C3C. Look at the price of C3C when it was released compared to PTW when it was released first.

It's..... possibly similar:rolleyes:

I dunno, but it better be or everything I've just said is nullified....

This old argument again?

Firaxis screwed no-one by this. I had a whole year to play PTW, for a mere $30. Money well-spent. Certainly not *wasted*

When Conquests was in development, the decision was made to include the civs, etc., from PTW. They could either incorporate the core PTW game on the Conquests CD, or force everyone who wanted to buy Conquests to also purchase PTW. Believe me, the latter would have alienated a much larger segment of the civving population!

The Jaimo is some sort of inside joke. When PTW first came out, you had to set a future date to see it, but now that's it's past that date, you can just see it. It has something to do with YUMBO!

Assuming I did pay twice (which isn't what happened), here's what it cost me:
$30 for about a year of regularly playing 8 - 10 hours a week. Call it 450 hours. Less than $.07 an hour. Sorry, I don't feel screwed.
The reality is they did us a favor. By allowing people who haven't yet bought PTW to upgrade all the way to C3C without buying two upgrades, they help keep a larger base of players playing the "state of the art" game, keeping more people playing, creating a larger customer base for Civ 4, making it more likely to make it through development and into production and doing it sooner.

I am surprised there is even a debate about this topic. I am sure that EVERYONE who played PTW enjoyed it to some extent or another. The whole point of purchasing it was for enjoyment, and if you received that, then you have you money's worth.

Look at it this way. That 30 dollars/pounds/whatever currency helps in the cause for more Civ, like Civ IV, and patches. It is worth paying for the cause, no?

Question I have to people who do not have PTW, but do have Conquests.

If you want to load PTW to play GOTM for example, will it run from the Conquests disc. Or do you still have to load the Vanilla Civ3 to play game of the month.

I know that I still have to load the PTW CD into the drive to play GOTM. It will not load for me from the Conquest CD. Just wondering if load was different if upgrading from Vanilla.

It looks to me that the Conquests CD has some of the PTW content, but does not have the PTW Startup.

Well I noticed despite not having PTW, that in my Atari folder it has Conquests and also PTW, so I imagine everything must work the same as someone with all 3.
