Contrast Photojournal, Everyone Welcome

Hello,
Latecomer to the party, but I love the concept (thanks) and I'd love to give it a try. But I feel like a noob - I have a CTD right when I try to load the original CrazyG save (I have the 2 Maps DLC, installed default 6-19-2). Here is my mod list - am I doing something obvious wrong ?
Thanks !
The problem is likely 1 of the last 4 mods in your list. I don't know which one.

So probably we should probably work out the next game and next stopping point. I think most support was for Milae's game? My game along with some others are in pretty similar positions too. I think finishing 3rd policy tree would be the most obvious stopping point and that would set us up to end on the 4th stage roughly.

Think i forgot to put my save up before so here it is if people want.
Those who do, don't forget to send missionaries to Siam for some big culture:)
Think I will play mine tomorrow and yea up until 3rd tree end (or 18th Policy) seems good.

Btw @stii you mentioned getting legionaries from the city-state. Not something I have thought about much before but is there some way of knowing which unit a city-state will send you? If I knew I could have been sent legionaries I would have gone crazy trying to get them lol.

I don't think there is a way but they do seem to keep sending the same one. Pretty sure I got 3 legionaries over the run.

Is there a preferred save? The thread went a little quiet for a few days. I played a little farther and had the most military progress, having actually taken cities.

Did @CrazyG play the 2nd round?

I kind of prefer the ToThePAIN save, does anyone else agree? Seems like more war progress, and I'm also not crazy about the 3/3 split Milae did for policies, I think something like 4/1/1 (Dominance, Fealty Opener, one of the other openers) or 6/0 fealty is better. Then again he is 15 turns later so it's hard to judge. I think perhaps instead of an arbitrary point, in the future we should just set a turn marker, with a view to make sure it's safely before the 19th policy choice. The religion marker felt important, but this one feels more like it obscures which is the best save.

Sorry I don't have a game for this round.

I'll vote for milae's. It looks spicy.

I'd happily play Pain's too though. I say the next goal would be either choosing an ideology or turn X (240?), whichever comes first.

I think if we all play different ones we lose a lot of the community aspect.

Playing to a turn might be better though as currently we are currently trying to compare what looks like a time lapse of an invasion.

You can hover over the "Militaristic" text on the city state screen to see which unique unit they have.

I certainly got them when they were already obsolete to longswordmen

Amusingly in your game it is the CS Siam conquered, how did that happen?

It does make it interesting to see how far games can diverge even if you do roughly the same thing. My game is pretty different from yours for such a short number of turns. And yeah those take a city missions are so powerful it is a shame to miss an easy one.

Siam ended up at war with Mongolia and maybe Greece
.
Tbh if I was on the ball I should've tried to get that alliance so they didn't die as I think they had the mission to take Porto as well.

They did. It was why I played my game the way I did. I prioritized conquering Porto ASAP to get the xp. It snowballed my units.

We're lucky this game that the runaway is next door. It's a fairly simple game in that if we conquer the runaway and take its wonders, we win. If not, we probably lose.

This next one was probably a bit long but I'm not sure if there is a better break point. I got the 3rd full policy on T230 and everything is nicely setup for the final battle. More detail in a bit

So continuing the game game

Spoiler :
First I finished off Portugal, taking their capital and making them my vassal pretty quickly. The war was already won by the start of the save so it was mostly about taking fewest losses while finishing the war as quickly as possible. I ddi get to 98% and they wouldn't become my vassal, which had me a bit worried but after a few turns they gave up. Having a big vassals is generally better than taking even more cities. I put it up to 25% tax instantly as they can't rebel anyway.

Persia then decided I was a monster/weak? and attacked me in one of the most impressive AI fails I've ever seen. They just didn't have any units or defence at all. At first I was going to kill some units and take their gold but when I saw how easy it would be I took 2 cities and made them my vassal as well pretty quickly, the war ended on about T210. I was at 75% war monger from Portugal so taking them out was low cost and gives me a much bigger front vs Siam.

hussars are pretty fun if having a bit of a death wish if you aren't careful. The knockback seems to combo with the overrun ability at the end of flanking as it seems to count knockback as a kill. Which results in lots of splash

While this was going on I got up guilds in a bunch of cities and started working specialists a bit more focused so I could generate GP. Banks as well so I could spend this big pile of money effectively. After the war with Persia I got up military academies everywhere and started churing units out of all cities bar the two newest ones. Siam didn't seem interested in Brandenburg Gate so I picked that up so I could really flood units. Poland's ability has lined up nicely here letting me finished rationlism roughly when I wanted to attack anyway. The three autocracy polices give a pretty huge boost. Rationlism lets me buy two GS so the option is to attack now or wait 10ish turns for artillery and upgrade a big pile of that as well.

(screenshots are post idology and therefore upgrades but save is before)
