I was brought into a war I didn't want with the MPP. I vowed it would be the last time I signed one of those.

I didn't have the logistics to fight the war decisively. I also didn't want to capture distant enemy cities or raze them at a detriment to my rep. Therefore, I captured their two sources of uranium and bombarded their iron and horses with my battleships, destroyers, and bombers. When their uranium and iron supply ceased, I saw my ally make significant gains. When I bombarded their supply of horses, they signed peace treaties all around.

I was surprised at the effectiveness of my strategic bombing campaign. The Chinese are wussies without their riders. The majority of the war required 1 battleship, 1 destroyer, 1 submarine, 6 bombers, 6 fighters, 6 tanks, and 2 infantry (and a transport). Considering my offensive would require a force many times larger for a decisive victory, I consider my campaign a success.

It also helped that my one capture on the war machine's mainland was surrounded by mountains. I bombarded and pillaged as many roads around the capture as I could. Then I just bombed the attacking units as they traversed the mountains. I felt like the Americans 'fighting' the Taliban.

Sounds like you hit on the right idea. If you get dragged into a war against your will but don't want to over-extend yourself, resource denial is the way to go. I like to move little strike teams of Infantry and Artillery in to cut off their sources of Rubber and Oil. The only tricky part is if they've got one of their cities sitting right on top of a resource. Then you have to take out all the roads leading to that city.

or your could take out all roads leading to their capital to cut off all resources and luxs. That is what I do [pimp]

wait ur at battleships and tanks and the chinese had riders? damn ive only seen that in the princeton levels.

mutual protection pacts are the best in my opinion. they get you into wars and also they stop people from declaring war on you. lets just say that if all of the middle east signed a mutual protection pact, no one would mess with the middle east not even the us just because they are stronger (acourse that would never happen).

They had battleships too and the tech to make tanks. They must not have had a consistent source of rubber. I did see some tanks, but they quickly died after being bombed while crossing the mountains.

MPP's suck in my opinion. I like to control the timing of my wars. I breathe Democracy and hiccup Communism and want to have the shortest war possible. I haven't seen proof that they have stopped any wars. Nearly all of my MPP's have resulted in a war.

Their capital was not accessible to my land units by ocean. I probably could've stealth bombed the capital from a carrier, but the stealth tech came late-late war. Good idea, but not feasible for me since I did not have the troops to take 2 cities w/o considering one to be a heavily guarded capital.

The only point in asking for an MPP is if you are about to declare war and you want an ally. The only reason to accept an MPP is if you're afraid they'll offer it to someone else and they'll both declare on you. So yes, MPPs almost always result in a war.

I never accept a MPP offered by the AI. The only time I've used one lately was in my last game. Two large continents, me on one, Germany and Persia on the other. I signed a MPP with both. If a war did break out, they would be slaughtering each other. Therefore it was a peaceful race to the spaceship for me :D.
