Will Monty or Shaka or whoever is a crazy warmonger for no reason declare war on me if lets say im friendly with them? Do they declare war on me even if im on friendly or please?

Yes, they will do it. The best you can do is to be friendly with them and bribe them against your enemies.

That bastard Monty just declared war on me for no apparent reason and we were on "Friendly" terms, had the same religion and had never been at war before... he just went "bonkers" and attacked me...

...wasn't like I was ripe for the taking either... I was ahead of him on techs, had massive castles, crossbowmen, macemen & pikemen protecting my cities, and he came at me with axemen and chariots! I called-up my reserve strike force of knights and it wasn't long before I was burning-down Monty's cities...

So it wasn't because we weren't on good terms, and it surely wasn't because I was ripe for the taking... I had other geese to cook at the time Monty attacked me, but I usually have a defensive plan on all my borders, and I certainly never trust Monty. I've been planning on marching on Rome, but Monty set me back... that bum... there's no glory in crushing the Aztecs, but Rome is a Holy city that I want badly!

Stupid, stupid Monty... now he's paying for being a total sociopath.

Cut 'em early or keep 'em busy via bribing. Only need to do that if they're really close.

Monty and Shaka will attack daftly anyone who is on their borders. Their information screen probably only tells them that they have more troops than you do, not what type of troops. Just sit back and use it as a way to plunder without guilt or worry of backlash at home, after all they attacked you, making them the aggressive dicks.

You can't control the maniacs.

You can either contain them by hemming them in, or fight them.

heres my situation:

Im on an island with Ragnar, Monty, Gandhi, Victoria, Pacal and me as Justinian. Gandhi was wiped out and Victoria and Pacal became vassals to Monty. The thing is im friendly with both Rag and Monty and they're both friendly with each other but Monty is getting a bit strong because he claimed 2 vassals but there are also Shaka, Joao, Saladin and Willeim on the other islands but i don't think they seem to get along. Should i turn on Monty who seems to be on equal techs with me or should i turn my attention to the other continent?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but can't a friendly Civ not declare war on you under normal circumstances? I can't remember anyone ever going to war with me from friendly without being forced into it by the AP, or the old vassalization bug... What usually happens to me is that Justinian, or whoever, will dip into pleased for one turn for some odd reason and declare war on me then.

Focus on destroying Monty. As soon as you gear up to cross the waves he'll do the same to you as he did to Wolfshanze. My 2 cents.

I destroy Monty sooner rather than later. There is no rhyme or reason to what he does, so I make my life easier and wipe him out. His capital is usually a good military city to capture too, with several settled great generals.

Warlords are like piranahs; they will eat you alive if you look weak. Make them capitulated vassals before they do the same to you, or keep up a big army so they leave you alone.

Monty, Shaka, Napoleon, and Isabella break those rules

Monty will attack you - Even when you're ages ahead of him in tech

Shaka Is a good techer, and a fearsome Warmonger - He's very, very, deadly.

Napoleon Is like a toned down version of Shaka

Isabella is a religious nutjob.

im not really sure how to post saves but here

edit 1: ok it worked. anyway im situated kind of in the middle of monty and ragnar and ohh btw Willeim is gonna attack me from the east in my lower right city (not sure of the name.)

I've Noticed a lot of times if you have a worker on a border thats exposed, that is enough to set off a Warmonger. They declare just to take the Worker!

I think you are corecct I know one leader that can be bribed into declaring war at firendly but forgot who that was. Oterwise I do not think they can declare war at friendly. But then I think civ count vassals relations aswell so that means that it somtiems isen´t enouth to just check what they think of you.

I'm not sure about that. AFAIK every turn there is a roll that decides whether or not the AI will DOW someone. If this roll succeeds, it starts building up a SOD, securing its cities (a bit;)). This phase is marked by "WHEOOH". The exposed worker might just influence the roll a tiny bit. But I don't think the AI will use this as a reason to DOW. Mainly because in the 10-30 turns when it builds units, the worker is very likely to be far far away again.
The reason was most likely (as usual) a weak military.
