July 14th is the 150s anniversary of the first successful Matterhorn ascent.
The current speed record by Kilian Jornet is 1h 53 min for the ascent and 2h 52 min total. This means he had roughly a climbing speed of 1km/h (altitude not distance)
Wow, that's kind of insane. Would be deadly to try this at lower altitudes with no oxygen masks.
It took us 55 minutes to climb up to the Machu Picchu gates and that was basically straight up. We went as fast as we could. I don't think that was even 1km.
Not that I don't trust these numbers, but 1km/h seems kind of impossible.
What is hugely cool about this is that those children are in Gaza..
