It is even more funny, given the parliament is in Edinburgh, a city known for some impressive architecture.
Imo that parliament ruins the landscape. I suppose they didn't want gothic like Westminster, but they didn't need to go with... what that is ^_^

Hopefully this link posts

Phone cameras are absurdly good, but still have obvious shortcomings for such scenery as this. I feel like a DSLR is necessary to truly capture what I saw on this beautiful hike to 9,000 ft (this photo is from about 7,000, the town is about 5,000)

I can't get that picture.

I can't get that picture.

Me neither , it must be one of those ludicrous (>10K) quality pics that are impossible for the human eye to capture ;)

It didn't post, then?

Damn. Here it is again with imgur compression

Off to the far top right you can see my town, and its airport. About 12 miles distant, give or take one.

More immediately below, there's my town of employment where more of the rich folk live.

vDnIqd6.jpg (JPEG Image, 4032 × 3024 pixels) That ain't all that compressed. ;)

edit, I like how in that town all the buildings are right on top of one another, and there's a billion acres of unused land around them.

There's really not that much unused, to be honest. All the brown is like 25-30 degrees steep, if you can't tell. Trees are hiding other stuff or are the purpose of that land, to hold trees :p this valley is also home of a Nat'l Forest

Wow it really is beautiful ! On the second picture there are a few clouds but besides that it is a crystal clean blue sky. It is a rare sight for me as I live in a region where it's cloudy 75% of the time. You should get yourself a telescope btw. If the weather is like that most of the time You can be sure to have some great sights at night ;) It must be beautiful during sunset too.

Oh and I have a question ! :) What's a "Nat'l Forest" ? Is it only the fancy Aztec sounding name or there is a mysterious story about it ? oooh I love mysterious stories !! ^^

"Nat'l Forest" is a shorthand way of writing out "National Forest". That means the forest is owned and managed by the federal government (or at least that's how it is in Canada, with our National Parks).

So, where is that? Somewhere like North Dakota?

Oh I see , Thank You for the info ;) I'm a little disappointed however that there is no mysterious story involved.... You know like Nat'l (It still sound Aztec'ish to me :D) being short for Ah Kantenal :mischief:

"The katun is established at Chichen Itza. The settlement of the Itza shall take place there. The quetzal shall come, the green bird* shall come. Ah Kantenal shall come. It is the word of God. The Itza shall come."

*the @Birdjaguar shall come ! :D

Is it Greek city Kyriakos ? The view is magnificent ! I think there was a greater meaning in how Greeks chose where and how to build their cities. For example the infrastructure, defensibility, availability of public buildings like Agora, easy access to harbor all was important but the views and aesthetics were equally important as well ! ;)

Yes, it is the island castle-town of Monemvasia, built by the last stage Byzantine Empire in the Peloponnese:

It's also an official Dark Skies community, so yes a telescope or at least powerful astro binoculars would be pretty sweet.

Southern Idaho :)

So, not a million miles off. They both border Canada, at least. :p

Picturesque, but I think I can spot a flaw in those defenses...

The only access to the high rise is from the town. In effect, even if the town lower walls were overtaken, it would be hugely costly to keep anything with archers shooting at you from tens of meters up and behind the upper wall. One also has to assume that at the time there were some houses/other on the mountain too (some remains are visible even in the pic), not just the cathedral.
