Cool Pictures 14: no , it wasn't me who painted Mona Lisa

This aerial photo shows the Notre Dame cathedral as boats pass by on the Seine. As part of the opening ceremony, the bells of Notre Dame rang for the first time since the iconic cathedral was gutted by fire in 2019. It is 90% restored.

Where is that statue?

Some place called Oakham. I got the picture from the "England and English History" group on FB.

It's an interesting mix of historical and modern stuff.

The Santa Maria del Fiore? I've wanted to go there ever since it featured prominently in Assassin's Creed 2.

Nope. Nopenopenopenopenope. Nope.:hide:

It would be such fun!

Not without a safety harness and a parachute. And Spock's jet boots, just to be certain.

Actually, make that No. Way. In. Hell. would you get me on that thing.

I've made some attempts to conquer my fear of heights. I went up on a Ferris wheel. I went on a plane ride (4-person plane). I rode a gondola over the Fraser River at Hell's Gate (tourist place in BC). And I climbed a very high ladder and spent the duration of each performance of 'Kiss Me, Kate' in a lighting booth in the rafters of the theatre where we did that play; my reason for being up there came at the end of Act I, when I had to fly a bird on a length of fishing line and then yank it up when a gun went off and chuck down a bagful of a rubber chicken and feathers, to make it look like the bird had been shot to smithereens.

All these things helped me to tolerate heights a bit more, though I still don't use my balcony (a fall would be fatal). I'd be willing to try those transparent bottomed walkway things, but they're actually attached to something sturdy.

Cranes? No way.

It would be hassle if you need the loo.

I'm with Valka on this. Maybe I'd do it in an all-glass room, as part of a building, but not when suspended only from a crane, not in a million years.

A long time friend of mine died recently. We had been friends and business partners for the past 24 years. He was a collector of many things. His house is more like the British Museum than anything else. I am helping his wife sort through different boxes and shelves of "things". I took some pictures while there today. This is a set of 17th C ? Japanese armor which sits in his living room.
