Why is it when an adult hits another adult, it's called assault,

but when an adult hits a child, it's called discipline?

even when it was for the same reason?

if an adult is stealing a chocolate bar, the store owner can get in trouble for hitting him, but not if a child is stealing it.

If a kid hits another kid, its usually ignored as bullying. if an adult hits another adult, they get arrested for assault

Your confusing spanking with hitting. If an adult spanks a child, it's discipline. If an adult hits a child, its child abuse.

Where do you get this? If the store owner hits someone who is stealing, it's still assault. It's also assault against a minor if the store owner hits a child.
