Corporation/SE question

Hello.

I have looked some of these CE/SE debate-threads. and have come to wonder why this hasn't been suggested: Teching Corporation techs asap.

I'm quite a noob with SE but difference between financial and philosophical doesn't seem large as of now. My intention is to play Pericles (for he has discount on libraries, universies and odeons) and as soon as feasible bulb as many techs towards those corporation I want (Sid's Sushi and Mining/Creative Con&Jewelers). After at least one those start transitioning to cottage economy and and kill enemies by ruining theirs.

One more question: What is the best way to create Great Engineers? Forge seems to be only building providing engineering specialist option early on.

Suggestions and experiences welcomed.

First, a strategy around beelining Corporations from the beginning seems silly to me. It ignores the requirements of the particular situation of the game. And corporations aren't really a massive benefit in general, at least not enough that they are the over-riding strategy from early game.

Creating a great engineer isn't that hard. Build the Pyramids and Hanging Gardens, maybe Hagia Sophia.

Corporation maintenence was patched so it no longer cripples enemies.

If you are going to beeline deeper than Liberalism in the tech tree, it pays to have a cottage-spammed Academy city.

Damn. Well, I could still build them anyway for my own use.

But, if its ridiculously hard pull this of maybe I should relax a bit and not worry about but use great sciencists to build academies around/build academy city.

Seriously, Corporation is so far down the tech tree, you just can't build a strategy around it from the beginning of the game. Doing well at high levels in CivIV has everything to do with building your strategy around the current situation. Your idea could have merit in some games, but it is not something to base a game around from the very beginning.

Yeah, I understand well that adapting to currents situation is best strategy there is. Maybe I was too oftimistic about SE.

The best way to beeline corporations is to hold the appropriate great people and tech a normal game. If you want one of the food corps make sure you beeline economics (rather than liberalsim, or take economics ith liberalism), keep that GS from Physics if you have no oil or concerned you have no aluminum. The great artist corp seams a little too far off with mass media to be effective.

Great Engineers. Best way to get them is to build the oracle in a non-capital city, slingshot metal casting, build a forge in the capital. Build only the pyramids, hanging gardens, Hag sophia there, run an engineer specialist, and optionally the national epic. You can also build the great library and national epic in a different city and run science specialists there to get your great scientists

SE is great. So is CE. Each shines under different circumstances. But a powerhouse SE does not require corporations. Sid's Sushi just makes it better if and when the time comes for that.

Civ Jewelers is an awesome way to fund a World War Tank.
