The utility that is provided won't help with all network setups, like mine. Here is a link for finding out your ip: http://www.simflex.com/ip.htm
Also, not all cable modems have static ip addresses. I myself have a dynamic ip address but it pretty much stays the same because my modem has yet to be turned off (been on for 3 months in Dec 2000). It is possible that the cable company has the cable modem setup to automatically lookup and change ip addresses periodically. I have heard of this, but luckly my company doesn't do this. Why would the cable company want to do this? So they can make you change from a residential to business customer (residential pays $40 a month, business pays $80 a month, for the same service!). Then they will charge you an additional $50 a month for the static ip, oh no, upgrading from residential to business doesn't get you a static ip for free! Gotta love the capitalism! <IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/smile.gif" border=0>
Also, maybe you could add something about sending a message with the request for addition to a persons contact list. I get so many ppl (not many from here) requesting authorization to add, but they never say who they are, or even send a message and try to talk to me before hand.
Just me sitting here tired and bored, waiting for my wife to go to bed.

ISP's changing the IP address routinely: I used to work for an ISP. the main reason they wanted customers to be "dynamic" instead of "static" is cost. the router support and configuration is much cheaper to support 100,000 users in 20,000 slots than in 100,000 dedicated slots. (this is why new DSL customers get mostly dynamic)

Oh, I completely understand how much easier it is do set everyone up on DHCP. I just am mad at how much they charge to get a static IP. Basically they charge 90$ EXTRA to get a static IP

Woke is a member of Sayen Tribe.
His use of "Saiyan" is a protest of sorts for a spelling change.

You just have to be familiar with Woke.

I don't know if this is what you were
asking, but supersaiyan is from Dragonball Z.
