I am currently playing tournament game 3-3, and have seen the most unexplainable 'feature' ever.

I am in despotism, at war with the zulu. I make peace. The next turn my corruption levels rise in one city from about 40% to 70%! Other cities also showed a definate increase in corruption.

Now, I have read the corruption thread here, but for the life of me I can't work this out.

I can't remember the details, but I have also seen happiness DECREASE after making peace. I know despots are warfaring people, but to be unhappy because you are not at war?!?!!

In the quoted corruption example it was my city with no foreign nationals.

If a.i declare war on you, it give happiness boost ( for militaristic trait for sure other i dont know) so it may trigger a WLKD which reduce shield waste. If you make peace, then happiness boost stop, wlkd stop and corruption increase.

Thanks, that certainly explains why the happiness has dropped.

WLTKD is not relevant here as the city was size 5. Also, in despotism with no happy improvments I was only just able to use all citizens.

The corruption thing really did happen. It could be possible that being at war lowered my corruption over time, and stopping the war set it back to default levels. Why is beyond me :(

Another possibility is that you increased your # of cities. Did you get any as part of the peace deal? or in the last turn before making peace?

It is not necessary to be militaristic to get the "negative war weariness" from having another civ declare war on you. However in Democracy it is not enough to make any difference.

I'll go back and check the # of cities closer to my capitol. If this has increased then it could be it.

The total numbe of cities is well below my optimum (24), but I may just have added one or even two closer than the city in question.

I would not have expected such a large increase though, but I will reload a few different turns and test it out...
