In this game, you will rule over the Koreans, who are Commercial and Scientific and start the game with the knowledge of Alphabet and Bronze Working. This is an Emperor level game with no sponsored victory condition. The Korean unique unit is the hwacha, a cannon with stronger bombardment and with lethal bombardment, plus the ability to promote and even create MGLs*!

    This is your starting position:

i added the logical worker move so to add to the pre-game discussion. this move is *not* made in the starting save of the actual game.

    Scope of the Game

    Map size: standard
    Map topology: continents
    Rivals: 7 pre-selected
    Barbarians: raging
    Required victory condition: None

Since we are living in times of a coronavirus hysteria, a fitting special feature of the game is activated!

*A tip, in case you want to use the hwacha like that: rename each unit to a different name - and add the elite info to the respective name when promoted! For this purpose it also makes sense to build hwachas from towns with barracks.

The game is released on April 1, 2020.
Submissions are due by June 30, 2020.

    PLEASE NOTE THE DATE!

A history of Korea up to about the middle ages as dictated by our glorious leader:

    3400 B.C.
Tar Valon is sacked by the pugnacious barbarians.

2950 B.C. I settle Blue Ajah and build a Curragh to establish contacts.

825 B.C. I have made contacts and traded knowledge extensively. Babylon declares war, but the conflict is brief and I lose no combatants.

170 B.C. 24 ! Parthian horsemen attack Yellow Ajah. The very last one breaches the walls and sacks the town. The Celts declare war, but again the issue is settled after one minor battle.

So continues the epic tragedy of the Korean people:

    900 A.D.
Global war erupts. Byzantium invades my lands and the Celts and Persia join in declaring war. I get Rome to join me in military alliance and their legionaires swarm to my defense. Noble Romans! This is a serious invasion.

980 A.D. Hordes of Byzantines die on my land beneath Roman swords. Even the Babylonians join in defense after I gave them a tech for military alliance. No serious damage is done and all the enemies pay ME a small fee for peace.

1250 A.D. Babylon is under attack from France and the Celts; they are on the ropes. I opportunistically join in the attack and snag the northern lands on my border up to the mountain range. At least I get some gems out of it.

I finished just in the nick of time.
I started a few weeks ago, but put it away for a while when the Byzantines attacked me early on. I thought they were attacking both from the north and the south, but when I looked later, I'd confused the southern group - they were actually Romans, who settled where I wanted to, but didn't attack. I eventually got peace.
Then I played for a while and mis-clicked, refusing a demand from the Romans and causing them to attack me. Again I put it away for a while. I managed to survive the Roman attack by allying the Babylonians. After defeating the Romans, I repaid the Babylonians by destroying them.
I'd originally been planning to go 20k, but the Byzantines were a threat to build a spaceship or catch my 20k town. By the time I dealt with them, my real-life time was too short to finish with 20k, so I continued on to domination. I hit the tile limit several turns before hitting the population limit. At first I tried growing for a couple of turns, but decided it was too slow, and ended up going to war again - one town gave me the population I needed.
Domination in 1858, finishing around 11:45 pm my time on June 30.

The Final Years of the Korean Empire:

    1435 A.D.
Nasty Byzantia declares war and attacks for no reason other than their desire for world domination. I have only riflemen – no infantry unlike them – and expect the worst but it turns out ok. I lose a frontier town or two, but I get an army and pillage their countryside until they agree to peace. Meantime I discover replaceable parts, build infantry, and am finally feeling secure. The plan now is to build a spaceship and get off this continent.

1876 A.D. I have built the Apollo Program after trading for Aluminum with the Celts but now the situation has changed. Only the Celts and Byzantines are left alive. They each have two Aluminum and neither will trade it. My only chance at victory is the space race so I prepare to invade Byzantine territory to take an aluminum for my own.

1876 – 1916 A.D.: Byzantium and Korea engage in a long and ruinous 40 year war. My entire army is depleted, as is theirs, and fresh recruits are thrown to the front to die almost immediately. I do take the Aluminum source and much of their territory, but my citizens openly revolt and our cities turn from hand-to-hand so often they don’t know what nationality they are. The Byzantines are sending transports to my shores with three escort ships and one tank
on the transport. I know they must be equally depleted. Finally they drop massive ICBMs – maybe even nuclear weapons – on five of my main cities. I continue to throw my remaining armies at them, take and lose a few cities, and FINALLY the Celts declare war on them. In a few turns they agree to peace for 20 gold, but what destruction they left behind:

    NuclearWaste.jpg

1917 A.D.: We never suffered a plague, but we never had a Golden Age either. Byzantium has the U.N. but an election was never held. Only the Celts, Byzantium and Korea survive, so I don’t suppose there could ever be a successful election. Now we are into the space race for sure.

1960 – 1968 A.D.: Celtic War. This should be my last war, hopefully. Three separate invasions of six units each die on the beachfront. My modern armor force has been built up, is potent, and will protect my island. I still share the island with Byzantium, but I won’t attack her if she won’t attack me. (I still need Robotics…)

1971 A.D. I lose. My spaceship was close but no cigar. My first COTM victory is still in my future.

Review: It was a good map and an enjoyable game, thanks again to templar_x for making it. Maybe I almost won, maybe I wasn't as close as I thought. The big wrinkle for me was the fight to get aluminum. An earlier expansion might have helped, but war will come regardless. My natural inclination is to be a builder and my certain preference is a 20k victory. I think I lack a strategic vision of how to get a win at any level above Regent.

Getting your first COTM victory would be easier if you didn't volunteer to design the easy games.;)
    You are getting closer, though.

We are allowed to discuss future plans in these threads. If you want to talk through your plans, you might get some useful feedback. It isn't hard to avoid spoilers, though there may not be a lot of people who've played to that point that can give feedback. Lately, I've been playing through games at the last minute.

Here, I'd have found a way to trade for the aluminum. If the AI has two, it is just a matter of finding the right price, which can be huge, to be sure, but I'd have avoided the war if I could.
