Could the concepts of energy and health be carried over to Civ 6?

As far as this game is called Beyond Earth, applied correctly to our way of life here on earth, I don't see why we should revert back to the empty gold and happiness concept. I think health and energy could be applied to Civ 6...

Market: Available in Classical Era. +1 Energy, +25% Energy.

I wouldn't mind energy as a strategic resource or late game mechanic, but wealth/currency ≠ energy.

Gold makes more sense for Civ5. If energy exists, it wouldn't fill BE's role (which is the role of gold). IIRC, Civ4 had some concept of energy related to power plants. It struck me as overly complicated, but would be more likely to be used than BE's gold replacement.

Health could be used in Civ6 similar to Civ5 (although my personal preference would be a whole new mechanic instead). I actually think the penalties for health fit more with happiness and the penalties for happiness fit more with health (with the exception of rebellions). Civ4, of course, had both concepts, but did it in a way that was unfortunately a bit redundant (health, happiness, and city maintenance is probably not the ideal system). If they used health instead of happiness, luxury resources would have to have an entirely different purpose, though.

Energy as a currency never makes sense. They did it here because it's what they renamed trade in SMAC, and the only did it in SMAC because noone had imagined an improvement like the cottage. Energy is, however, impossible to counterfeit.

Yeah, energy... only works as Sci-Fi flavouring. Gold is a much better "abstract" representation for wealth and money.

Health... I think the health metaphor is somewhat more flexible than happiness in some regards, regarding growth at least, but less so in others. It would probably work, after all aqueducts and sanitation were the original city size limiters. It'd be interesting in a dual system as in the past but on a global level but not on its own.

Gold wouldn't have made much sense as "currency" in BE especially since the civilopedia states that gold isn't as rare in the new planet as it is on Earth and that is therefore just a useful resource like copper.

Considering that Gold has been used as currency for centuries, I don't see why they would change it to anything else for Civ 6....

Imagine people in the 1000 BCs taking "energy" as a source of wealth... Zzzzzzzzzzzz
