Thinking she might have covid but not knowing was making my mother anxious, more anxious than she is now.
Despite all the testing talk, I hope she feels better soon. :)

Eric Clapton got covid, the schadenfreude runs deep

Clapton actually got vaccinated and had a bad reaction, he said so and became the enemy

^I keep telling you, all we need is one astronaut suit for each person in the world and we're set.

Na, I disagree. I don't like uncertainty. I prefer to know the outcome, rather than guessing around. This just makes me uneasy.

Well then you can just assume covid, and not bother with testing.

If you're symptomatic and testing negative for SARS-CoV-2, odds are you're infectious with virus that isn't SARS-CoV-2.

This is not true for me. Gastrointestinal symptoms are common in covid, and I get them from stress. They have been the most common cause of me doing LFT tests.

Er, yeah, I was clarifying for The_J in the context of "You're unlikely to be infectious with SARS-CoV-2". "Not being infectious with anything" is also not infectious with SARS-CoV-2.

I thought we were still on the "Positive covid tests make people anxious. Solution: stop testing" subthread.

In record time, the president of Argentina's misgovernment has reached an agreement whereby neither the prosecuting attorney nor the presiding judge object to him and his wife taking a loan to pay 3 milion pesos in all as ‘compensation’ for the damage caused by their illegal partying in the presidential residence.

This is the same president that would take to the microphones and to twitter every day to personally insult and threaten named individuals for the hideous sin of breaking the lockdown.

Quietly, prosecutors in other jurisdictions are now relievedly dropping the prosecution on thousands of cases. I still remember the misgovernment being proud of how many tens of thousands of people they arrested every day, live on TV.

Health Minister here assures us that the current wave is peaking and that people needn't get tested.

Epidemiologists counter with the argument that if there's no testing then you cannot know whether we've reached peak covid again or not.

First controlled human infection trial, which I think also some people here have been urgently waiting for.
Eighteen (~53%) participants became infected, with viral load (VL) rising steeply and peaking at ~5 days after inoculation. Virus was first detected in the throat but rose to significantly higher levels in the nose, peaking at ~8.87 log10 copies per milliliter (median, 95% confidence interval (8.41, 9.53)). Viable virus was recoverable from the nose up to ~10 days after inoculation, on average.
[...]
No quantitative correlation was noted between VL and symptoms, with high VLs present even in asymptomatic infection. All infected individuals developed serum spike-specific IgG and neutralizing antibodies. Results from lateral flow tests were strongly associated with viable virus, and modeling showed that twice-weekly rapid antigen tests could diagnose infection before 70–80% of viable virus had been generated.

As usual a partial story from @Berzerker.
Clapton said a few other things too about "mass formation hypnosis" and "seeing little things on YouTube which were like subliminal advertising".

and here's the rest of the story:

"For unvaccinated hospitalization risk, 2% of Democrats responded correctly, compared with 16% of Republicans. In fact, 41% of Democrats replied that at least 50% of unvaccinated people have been hospitalized due to COVID-19."

so he was right about 'mass formation hypnosis' too

I am not convinced. There is evidence that in some bits of the world only one in 10 of those who die from covid are identified as such, which would mean we are underestimating the "percentage of people who have been infected by the coronavirus needed to be hospitalized". It could be that the republicans are nationalists who only consider the country they are in, and the democrats are actually considering everyone.

Again with the made up term. No he wasn't, its bullfeathers spread by irresponsible moneygrabbing idiots.
