[CRASH] can only use play now option, custom game crashes (but sound is there)

I can only play the game with the play now option. If I try to do a custom setup the game always crashes on the load screen when the guy is doing the civ description. Has anyone else exprienced this? I cant even play because I get very bored playing on the lowest difficulty. Anybody know a fix, or a cause for that matter?
