Help!! Help me... I brought a laptop which OS is Vista Business in English [generally], it has been quite a long time [since May]... anyway, when I try running the application of Civ III [not Conquest] after a long long installation [as Vista lowers the quality of performance], I cannot launch it!! Then the whole thing turns black and an error window appears, it says "Code of mistake: XXX..." [sth like that...]  Vista sucks.... I have not been touching my empire for nearly three months...... :( please help!

PS I have two sets of Civ III installation CD, one in English one in Chinese. [I have tried both, and even the conquest patch!! of cuz doesnt work... :( ]

sad that I was tricked by Vista... ==

The same with me! Only but I somehow got in the game, but wasn't able to make at least a single turn..:(

I guess you could get help at Microsoft headquarters, after all, Bill Gates is desperate for another $27.50.

Ack. I bought a laptop with Vista, as well, hopingto still be able to play Civ III onit.
I was also able to install, but it seemed to fail near the end. I then got in, but was unable to play, with some txt not found in pal..(something) file...Is there any way to fix this?

I also installed the Civ3 on my new visat laptop and the graphics looks all over the place any suggestions how to work it. I have Ati Radeon Xpress 200M installed too.

OK guys...you need to give more details. A copy of the error message could be a great help, even if it doesn't make any sense to you. There are other people who've had CivIII vs. Vista problems, and might recognize an error report. I'm one of them who had CivIII vs. Vista problems and got it fixed, albeit after 50 days.

First of all, if you can do a clean install of Vista, that may well solve the problem. It did for me. Just make sure you back up all your data first. Including Civ saves.

------

dbslikacheung: It sounds like you install Civ3, and after the installation you cannot launch it. Is that correct? If so, how far does it get in the launch? Nothing at all, splash screen (Tower of Babel), video, or all the way through the video? And what exactly is the error code? With some of this information I may be able to guess further as to the problem.

Also, did CivIII ever work on Vista for you?

-----

Brainiac18: What exactly do you mean by "got into the game"? Did it load up to the main menu, or did it successfully load your saved game file? If the game crashes upon finishing loading your saved game files, you have the same problem I had. I believe it may be something to do with installing CivIII with User Account Control on and then turning it off, but before I found evidence this may be the case I had already reinstalled Windows and got it working again. An error message would help here, as well.

----

Veersw, copy down the entire error next time and post it here. This sounds similar to the ~LSANS.font error (you can search for that), or perhaps a file was accidently deleted/not installed. But it'll help a lot to know which file the text was not found in.

---------

Levent Demir, make sure you have the latest graphics drivers for your card. You'd think a new card would have everything necessary for a 2001 game off the bat, but they may have missed something in the initial drivers. CivIV gave me this problem at first due to out-of-date drivers.

------

I tried Firaxis support myself, but they replied that they don't support the game on Vista. So that, unfortunately, is probably not going to help, unless you conveniently forget to specify the version of Windows you're running.

Okay. My installation of Civ-3 on Vista seems to have gone okay and I have all the icons where it should be. The game loads well watching the 2K and fire axis initial videos well. However when it goes to the game menu the graphics looks very poor. When I start a game the picture quality is again very poor and dialogue boxes don't work:confused: . It appears as I have graphics problems Vista thinks I have the latest drives for the Ati Radeon 200. Do I need to make some display or resolution adjustments. A very puzzled Levent Demir
