Creating animals

Is there any way to build or clone animal units reliably, beside spamming combat on a captured spider or wolf pack? I ask because I am ending up sitting on all the animals I capture waiting for my spiders to proliferate so i can use the baby spiders as blanks to transmit sacrificed animal 'blood' traits to my units.

edit: And not just for the Doviello either.
