Anyways, the bottom right icon in the attached pic (sort of looks like a deformed starfish): I was thinking you had a faction set with this already, but I don't see it at your site. Am I mistaken?

Ah. The strange starfish bases of the Unicom, by CyberGod. They're quite organic looking. That would work very well. Good catch.

Rush job, but how about this for a diplomacy landscape?

OK, I really liked the original spacebourne pic - thats why I brought it up. But I've been sitting here for the last few minutes looking at your pic and thinking about these Prog. Essentially their backstory is that they were stranded eons ago in an isolated solar system at the fringe of our galaxy after the wormhole they had used to transit to the solar system collapsed. At that point their only hope was to enter hibernation and have their spaceship travel at relative velocities (i.e. sub-light) to the nearest known Progenitor star system - a journey which would take tens of thousands of years. By the time they finally arrived, the Progenitor empire had collapsed due to the malfunction of the Manifold experiment, and so all they found were traces of the original Progenitor outpost. As they make their way back to their home system, they encounter the Beta Lyrae solar system, and their ancient and decrepit starship is overwhelmed by the same nannite defenders which destroyed the Harmony. So I think the underlieing theme you are evoking of "fallen on hard times" makes sense. Do you agree?

This morning I did a simple swap-in of CyberGod's starfish bases as previously modified by me. Note that the shields are something of my own invention. The Autocthone have been out of touch for a while- why shouldn't they be different in that? -But I could change it.

Haven't done anything to the diplomacy landscape yet. As always, I'm interested in suggestions for the whole thing.



...What BL factions have we not posted?

I want to point out to lurkers that most of these factions are posted on my Custom Factions page, and linked or posted here in the Alt. Official or SMAniaC threads. I further want to point out that Darsnan likes/responds to/uses feedback about what he's done, and would like to hear from you...

As far as the Imperial (or Star) Progs are concerned: do you recall that skreeblos had posted some base graphics that had some really nice silver spires in them? I think this would be the right tone for these Progs. Any thoughts on this?

Edit: their in post 111 (page 6) of the "More SMAniaC factions" thread. I think this would make ideal Imperial Progs.

In one place or another I think we've touched upon them all. I tried to upload the Empathi last night and was told I had already done so in another thread.

You did, in "More SMAniaC"- but it was only half-done. The version I posted Saturday in "Alt. Official" with the logo corrections is the definitive one to date.

As far as the Imperial (or Star) Progs are concerned: do you recall that skreeblos had posted some base graphics that had some really nice silver spires in them? I think this would be the right tone for these Progs. Any thoughts on this?

...I used those spire bases for the Templar of SMAnaiC just the other day. I know you probably don't care, but let me see what I can throw together for a merged Prog base prototype in an hour or so...

Good point - I hadn't thought of it that way.

I like the second one better: the silver strikes me as more regal/ fitting of this faction.

Just one thought: I really liked that royal blue you put into their factional leaderhead pic: if you can make that their factional color I think that'd be killer!

Including the Usuprers we also have about 4 that have a yellow-ish color theme to them, so I would prefer a different color. I do like the blue you put in their faction leader head pic, but if you've got a better idea let me know (or surprise everyone - you've done a good job choosing colors in the past).

I'm working on it now. I'm writing about the process of changing the bases and the storytelling aspect of the art for the [graphics] thread right now. The writing is slowing the art process down a lot, but helping future artist is important too, and I should still have that draft done by the time you get off work today.

I'm just going to go with the royal blue- you might want to look at the powergraph and think about the issue when we have all the BL factions done. Faction colors are a pain with the 256-color SMAC palette, but changing them and posting a draft takes minutes. We can fix that collective look.
