Pirates!
Mediterranean trade rose to a high by 2900 BC when pirates began to roam the waves. Some rumored that the pirates hailed from Carthage however there was no being sure. Sicilian masterminds, however, were quick to combat the pirates and their fearsome War-Chariots of Nethuns struck fear into the hearts of many pirates who, limited in their range, could not effect trade between the Hellenes and Sicilia. Sicilia benefitted hugely from this and their restrictions on trade gave them an iron hold over much of the central Mediterranean market. (+2 growth points for Sicilia, +1 growth points for Hellenic Republic)

Koryo-Xenshin War
War broke out on the Koryoan Peninsula between the two competing nations as Koryo forces crossed the 38th Parallel. Quickly Xenshin decried this as southern aggression and many Xenshins answered the call to action: as Koryo forces assaulted the north, Xenshin settlements became abandoned as large chunks of the populace took everything they could with them. Xenshin then attempted to strike back with their speedy March Infantry and narrowly flanked the broad Koryoan front. As March Infantry breached the front lines they began causing havoc in the Koryoan homelands. The Koryoan general, realizing the threat posed, was quick to turn around. Although the two armies have yet to meet, presently the Xenshin March Infantry are cut off from their homeland as the Koryoans closed their line of exit. Still, a hefty chunk of Koryoan territory is occupied with the capitol itself being threatened, and the Koryoan army runs the risk of becoming de-supplied if something isn't done. (No losses.)

RANDOM EVENT: Floridians enjoy an amazing ocean-harvest as hurricane seasons practically double the bounty of the sea! A stone-age fleet signs up out of conscripts eager to trek the waves, and the fishing boom helps boost the economy! (+1 Stone Fleet, +1 growth points)

Floridian Cultural Information c. 2900 BC

The early Floridian calendar was greatly different from our own, and few are sure when the dating started. The unification of Florida under the King of Orlando took place at approximately year 1000 of the Floridian calendar. The best record we have of later events come from a variety of tablets left at key points in Floridian expansion and conquests. These tablets are frequently dated and marked with the year and dates involved with the event which took place in that region. Archeologists have done a great effort in recovering these tablets, many of which have been miraculously preserved. They have painstakingly reconstructed the months of the early calendar, of which there are ten within each year, and five weeks of seven days each. The months are as follows:

Rorshaustus
Febtober
Orlampin
Vimesin
Cocacolin
Elvistus

Celts of Lore

The Celts are different than the Channel People. They are much more looser based people, although clans the size of flanders are seen around Cornwall and Wales, they fight each other as often, if more often, than outsiders. They are warlike and don't care for the linen and wool that Flanders produce, or the Oak and Grains that London Procure.

They are shorter, more heavy set than the Channelites. With red hair common rather than brown, they rule most of Eltiland. It is not known if they will fight us or join us but it is known that one and all... beware of the Chariots..

The Channel And the Longboat
c. 2900 B.C.E.
Lesson Plan: read following paragraph and discuss the hardiness of the Channel Peoples and the Seas

The Channel is a fearsome Waterway, the funnel shaped strait gathers in storms from the great northern seas to the Mighty Atlantic Ocean.

However, a few designs started to survive almost every single crossing of this dangerous beast. The Longboats, with high hulls combines daring with two sails and safety of Oars. They can navagate the tiny islands of the strait with impuny, their supplies enough to travel to Iberzi (Iberia) with resupplies with friendly clans and their warriors numerous enough to scare off the Galleys of the Mediterranean. They do not need much more than stronger wood before they can sail the open seas.

However, without resupply, currantly they can barely sail as far as their closest trade partners: Dani. And they are also narrow. However, it is hoped that with bronze will come a metal strong enough to conquer the Oak and bring the Longboat into glory.

However, this makes them only average in a frontal attack against a prepared enemy. Their modified axes carry a small knife in the handle, that helps them with subduing and killing the enemy. 1 per.

Start trade with The Channel Union.
Try to start trade with Sicilia and the Hellenic Republic.

Story:
King Mikael The Second (called after his great-grandfather, the first king Tartessos had ever had) was training next to his soldiers with wooden axes, lighter than the stone axes the army used but yet good enough to learn how to make the correct moves: parry, vertical up-to-down slash, horizontal left-to-right slash, stab with the knife, repeat.

That knife in the handle, made of incredibly well afilated silex, was a very good idea one of the people making weapons had had a few years ago, the last year of his father Tonin as king of Tartessos. The army was still practising with it, and it had yet to be used as a normal weapon by the army, because it was quite difficult to use it without cutting yourself.

"Your Majesty," one of the royal messengers said, reaching him and stopping the training exercise.

"Yes, Petro?" Mikael asked.

"Your presence is required in the Council Chambers, Your Majesty."

King Mikael sighed. It was obvious that someone in the Council had called for a meeting. He wondered what the hell was the emergency that required for a full meeting of the Council, especially now that he was training for the use of the newest weapon of the army. However, he knew that, by the law of the Kingdom of Tartessos, he was forced to attend the meeting unless he was gravely ill.

"Send word for the Council that I'll arrive in less than half an hour," the king told the messenger.

"Yes, Your Majesty," Petro said, turning back and running towards his destiny. Mikael then went to the showers, where a servant would drop jars of water over him to clean out the sweat that the sun and the exercise had made him expel from his body.

****~~~~~~****

"Your Majesty," Alfo, the Merchant Councilor said, formally greeting his king with a short bow.

"Alfo," King Mikael said. "Why was I called here?"

"There are several situations that needed your presence as the leader of the Council here, situations that might cause a state of emergency in our country if we don't act fast."

"All right," King Mikael said, and in a matter of minutes, the councilors arrived to the Chambers. The last one was the Miner Councilor, Rodri.

"Sorry for the wait, my wife was ill and I had to stay with the children until my mother arrived," Rodri said.

"Don't worry, Rodri, we have been waiting only for a few minutes," Alfo said.

"Very well, then we should start this meeting," King Mikael said. "Who was the one who called for the emergency council?"

"It was I, Your Majesty, with the approval of the Fisher Councilor and the Priest Councilor, both of which need to point out other things," Alfo said.

"Very well. I also had an idea regarding the army, but as you were the first to state your wish to talk, you may do so," King Mikael said, already imbuing himself of the condition of Council Leader.

"The economy of our country would surely improve if we were to start a commercial relationship with the other nations we already know about, namely the Sicilians and the Hellenics."

"And Carthage?"

"From what I can tell, they have started to prey upon several trading ships that were travelling between Sicilia and the Hellenic Republic, but they were beaten back by the Sicilian Navy. So, I'm not sure if it would be a good idea to trade with Carthage if our navies are in danger of suffering attacks."

"Very well, then we shall send messengers to them. Fisher Councilor?"

"My men have seen some terrains a few kilometres from here, to the south. As the place where we are seems to be pretty much the only way out of the Mediterranean Sea on this side, we think that controlling the other side would be beneficial for our nation."

"Conceded. Are your fishermen willing to help build ships that can carry people so that a new city can be built at those terrains?"

"I'll have to ask, but I doubt there would be any problem with that, Your Majesty."

King Mikael nodded, and looked at the Priest Councilor. "What was your petition, Priest Councilor?"

"Your Majesty, the Temple of Gaia is running along nicely. However, we need more money from the royal treasury to keep building at a fast pace."

"I fear that we are already running thin on money, and we will have to pay the ship builders and the colones that will go to the other side of the sea and towards the north. However, I promise that soon you will have more than enough money to keep building the temple."

"Thank you, Your Majesty," the Priest Councilor said, although he seemed sad at not being able to get more money for the building.

"Those colones that go west and north might find materials that would make building the Temple a bit cheaper and better," the Merchant Councilor said, "and the trading with Sicilia and the Hellenic Republic might bring more money to the royal treasury and to you." (OOC: hint, hint!)

"I truly hope so," the Priest Councilor stated.

"There is something I wished to tell you," King Mikael said, and all Councilors turned to the king. "As you may know, I - and the army - have been training a lot with the new axe-knife. However, it isn't a weapon that the normal soldier can use, which is why I think that the teachers should start to find a way to make a good use of this weapon, maybe changing the kind of training a soldier that was to use the axe-knife needs or something like that."

"It shall be investigated, Your Majesty," the Teacher Councilor said.

"Very well. If no one else wishes to say something, then I suggest that we all come back to our normal occupations."

No one said anything. They wished to come back to their homes as much as the king, to stay some time next to their families and friends as they waited for the summer heat to die down.

"Then, I declare this meeting closed."

Bengal continued to expand along the Ganges, for it was quite important to Bengali economy. The Bihari were the first victims of the Bengal nation, being overrun. They had no weapons. Just rocks. The Bengali had clubs and axes, however. They hit the rocks with their clubs, flinging them back into Bihar. Needless to say, the Bihari quickly became a part of Bengal. The site of the battle where they lost was called Patlipura, soon to be a city of great wealth. Most of the subjugated Bihari tribes decided to stay and live in their homelands, accepting Bengali rule. The others would just be struck down by the Bengali militia that just moved there.

Now, there's another tribe allied with the Bihari called the Avadhi-Kanauji Union. They're also quite weak, but they seek to destroy the Bengals. They have Slingshots, a step up from the Bihari, but still bad compared to axes and clubs. Thankfully, the Bengali Clubbers can hit rocks from up to 300 feet and 100 mph.
