CTD when viewing globe on huge map

When the game progresses into the late 1800's if I jump out to the global view the game will ctd without fail. What's up with that?! For the record I am running a P4 2ghz, 1gigRAM, ATI 9600XT 256mb, and an audigy sound card. Anyone else having this problem. Other than some minor tweaking stuff that needs to be taken care of in a patch the game so far is good.(now that I can get it to run;-))
