    Well, well...

Let's start this with a information: I just got a Nintendo Wii. My arms are hurting and I'm absolutely sleepy, as you must know, a "kid" with a new toy doesn't want to  at all. But this "kid" had to come working today... I wish I was on school vacation, but I'm not. So, this post tend to be a little :gripe:...

One good thing: congratulations, Cam! :goodjob:
The main feature on Cam's game was the early Theology. Sistine will be major for those who want to do it the "specialist" way. And for those who doesn't, too!
Also, even without Civil Service, Theology opens the alternate path to Paper and Liberalism. All that is needed is Drama and the Philosophy lightbulb is available. It's a path rarely used, but it's a path...

Multineer, I can see you are frustrated. But here are low-level players, including myself. I cannot see the saves the way you do because you're a better player than myself! As cabert states, the format of game is not the best for cultural victories. We all learn from our mistakes, so making just...one...more voting for the "non-optimal" game is ok. A big mistake should be one voting for my game! If I'd want to be the best, I'd just play offline. Having no one to compete is a guaranteed victory. Or a total loss.
One thing I'm trying to learn, but is damn too difficult, is reading your posts. English is not my first language. And yours isn't a piece of cake... So, if you could, please, try to write, say, "Englishier" :)crazyeye:), I'd thank you.

So, getting back to business, as the Godfather would say, we're due Friday/Saturday with a game played until 1000 AD from Cam's save, right?

I hope I don't get too "Wiicited" this "wiik"...

NOTE FOR THE UNWARY: Nottingham and York have avoid growth turned on, you should turn this off straight away upon loading the save, not like me only noticing half-way through

A big :nono: to Cam for this one ;)

    Spoiler :
Research is immediately changed to Code of Law, we need courthouses badly.

I fire the two scientists in London to make sure we get Great Library (then we get scientists back for free).

Consider trading Mao Theology for Calendar but will wait until Sistine is done.

We have a GA lying about, which will be sent to London to be merged (for the culture and the cash).

I cancel a lot of workers who are doing non-essential tasks and redeploy for cottage building and a final chop for Sistine.

MMing I can get us back to 30% at -2gpt and next turn should be able to get flat at 30%.

Some axes are sent south in case Mao is up to anything.

Time to actually play this thing

    Press <ENTER>

Here's a killer. What to do?

We've got 12 turns left on Great Library. Between gritted teeth I say yes and Mutineer's plan to clear the continent seems very sensible now  Usually this precedes a declaration so I'm stuffed regardless but just in case...

    Gee there's a surprise. NOT.

    Here's a bigger surprise.

I whip a spear in the hope that the choko will kill the axe and the spear might hold off the HA.

They don't attack? I'll lose a worker next turn because as he already "moved" (ie continued his chopping task) before I clicked him (one of my pet hates of civ iv).

I kill the HA with a spear but the choko won't attack and we play shadow boxing with 3 axes following it.

Someone other than Mao builds the Great Library which is sad but I'm always a bit blase abouth this one in culture games as it pollutes and overpowers your GA production somewhat.

I think we may just leave Neapolis to build military and eventually flip to Washington.

I clear out the initial infestation for the loss of 2 axes but a wave of HAs and a guerilla II axe cause massive pillaging issues.

    We get Sistine Chapel.

I build Heroic Epic in London.

Code of Law comes in and I pick Currency. I trade CoL immediately to Washington for Calendar (even beaker trade :goodjob:).

    Finally we can get peace.

I take it. Thankfully he didn't want a city.

I trade Mao Thelogy for Monarchy and 280 gold.

I research Currency and Drama seems a good pick next.

We pop another GA, just leave him in London.

Drama is in. Taoism is still out there so lets see if we can nab it.

I trade Mao corn for spices, just to hopefully get another + with him later. Dyes got to Washington for fur for same reason.

Also its time to grow our cities so lets get some happiness.

I built a settler for a 9th city and have him on the coast near the gold but we'll wait until the finances improve somewhat. Washington settles there, eventually that will flip so I see if I can find another spot for the settler.

Surprisingly I get Taosim and a double holy city. Civil Service seems good. I trade Philosophy to Mao for Feudalism and 100 gold. I also trade Washington Theology for Construction and 10 gold.

I feel its time to start spreading religion so start up a few missionaries and temples.

Settler is now here if we feel we need a 9th city.

London and York seem good legendary city choices, Antium and Rome maybe as the third?

Research is back to +7 at 60%, -10 at 70%

Here's what's happening in your part of the world

All in all, things are still going well. It would be intersting to see how the other mob are doing across the waves (but I wouldn't bother with researching optics to find out unless we can trade for it). This save is very winnable from here.

Music should be the next tech after Civil Service (London is a great bureaucracy candidate) and then the race to Liberalism. Cumae has been running scientists (currently sacked) and could pop out a GS for Education if needed.

Gee Ozbenno, it's amazing that you were able to survive to the end of the round given how absolutely crap the game I submitted apparently was.

    I'm amazed i survived too.

Nothing to do with the quality of the save, which was great (sorry if I gave another impression  ) but more to do with how badly I suck at knowing what to do in these situations.

sueing for peace is clearly the best move in this situation. I'm a bit overconfident in my armies and I often don't sue for peace when I should. Well played :goodjob:

Well finished my turns. There was a bit of exitment.

    Spoiler :

    Turn 0.
Switch research to dramma, in attempt to get Music.
Open borders with Mao and Washington.
Move axes from north to south thinkingit help to take barbarian city.
That help me a bit in a future.
Next turn traded Theology for Calendar, decision that actually help me a lot.

    Babbaaa.
175AD Mao declare on as! He move 2 HA from south and trireme/galey pair.
    Landed HA and Chokony! darn.
Lucky I had overflow from previous turn whip, let me build archer in one turn.

After that was non stop whiping. I whipe a lot of trirem, protecting coast and hunting his navy. Whiped spears, swords, produce more archers. darn, city suffer. To add insult 275AD we lost GL. Money from that let me finish dramma fast and use artist to get Music and artist. That we relieve.

after dramma I went to currency, to improve out economy.
520 we build chapel and 580 discover currency.
    620 AD monarchy.
Research set to divine rigth. I decided that I want to use artist to get safe tech to trade, get non stone religion and ability to build Versales with out building 6 courthouses.
Mao was ready to talk, but I waited couple turns untill he cyicided his stak on our city.

Then 660AD made peace, he still wanted city, but I offer him litherature and he accept.

Strigt away move army to Gepib, barbarian city. Beat Mao and took it 740 AD. I want this hourses, so I keep it.
Same year got GS and Philosofy and Taoism.
    800 AD traded for construction

820 AD discover divine rigth and Islam.
Next Feodalism, for civic and couner to Chokony.

    900AD Feodalism
    920 Traded metallocasting
    Revolted to Vassalage.
960 AD Washington asked me to convert to buddism and I agreed.
I want to have him on a good side, seems war with Mao is inevitable.
WE now can addopt some religious civic if we want.

Researched Col and now we are researchign civil service.

So :please: don't pull out KMad!

    And, :please: cheer up Cam!

I'm lurking here and enjoying all the chatter. I don't think anyone has said anything offensive but any comments made which arn't compliments can be taken badly. I know what you mean by not wanting to play where people are upset but I hope you manage to resolve it, I think that the people here are really friendly and it's worth playing on. Borrow mutineers trick skin I'm sure he has more then one.

It does seem kind of odd that Cam_H played a solid round (easily one of the top two imho) and seems to have got nothing but negative feedback. I'm not surprised that he's pi$$ed.

For the record: Good Round, Cam. Well Played! :goodjob: :goodjob:

It also seems odd that Kmad is so distressed by Cam's (understandable)discontent that she's quitting the game.

Maybe playing cultured is making people all refined and vapourish.

Maybe its because we're playing England (a notoriously feeble breed  ).

    Its a game.

    It's not real life.

    Get some perspective  .

It's not my intention to drive people out of the game, and I would welcome KMadCandy to revise her decision.

I don't consider myself especially thin-skinned and am happy to acknowledge :smoke: moves when they're there, but I was pretty disappointed with some of the post-round posts (as Pigswill nicely articulates in #214).

Mutineer's right in that his game probably should have been selected (while I may harbor some quibbles over a few moves, overall it was an inspirational effort), and that his concern about expeditious voting should be addressed for future rounds. Thorough and clear game reports, and time taken over voting would be two steps in the right direction.

So - let's get this thread back on track, and hopefully KMadCandy will choose to join us.

Right - I'll play my game tomorrow and post the save here. But I really am sorry that Maddy isn't around. Still, as I have said, before, I think I'll feel comfortable playing Cam's gane. Though I'll probably make a mess of things

Well, in my believe it is imposible to tearch or to learn with out challenging one's preconseptions. That could be painfull in times.
Please note, that I voited Cam_H game first, giving him 3 points. I found my second candidate a bit weeker, as stack of cats were achieve for too mach cost.

I would suggest to assign a bit more time for discussion/voite and for everyone not only write description what they did, but situations assestment/ there plans at the end of turn set. This will make people think abit more about games and there state and give as option to discuss plans. This let people to make more imform decisions and give option to people to unswer posible question/conserns.
